May 18 - Broom Battle!
Event Date: May 18, 2024
Event Location: Canyon View Preserve
We’re doing it yet again! Placer Land Trust needs help removing an aggressive invader from Canyon View Preserve! Brooms (French, Scotch, Spanish, etc.) are a group of shrubs native to parts of Africa and Europe and have been spreading rapidly throughout many parts of the U.S. They are such successful invasive species not only because they grow rapidly, but each plant can also produce thousands of seeds that remain viable in the soil for many years. In addition to out-competing other native plant species, broom is also highly flammable, greatly increasing the risk of spreading a wildfire.
