Bionerds is committed to protecting your privacy.  We wrote this privacy policy with the purpose of providing you, our clients and visitors, with information on how we collect, use and store your information so you can make informed decisions about what information you would share with us.  

How we collect your information

We obtain your personal information shared with you, a parent or legal guardian, voluntarily through our website and registration form.  We are committed to complying with Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).  We only collect data for children under 13 years-old with their parent or legal guardian’s consent.  Your information will be saved securely using a reputable third party protected storage space.  Only our employee(s) who provide you service, and trusted agent(s) or independent contractors who help us in managing data will have access to it.  We will not share, sell or rent your information to any third parties unless it is required by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to conform to the edicts of the law or comply with a legal process served on our website.  We reserve the right to report to law enforcement agencies any activities or information that we reasonably believe to be unlawful.

Types of information we collect

The information we collect includes, but not limited to your full name, address, email address, phone number, your child’s name, child’s gender, child’s birth date, child’s school, special need, emergency contact, any related survey and offer items, and cookies.  We use this information to serve you and your child better in and outside our classroom.  To best serve you, other sensitive information such as credit card or other types of payment information, and payment or refund credit are handled by a reputable third party. 

 

What we do with your information

We use the collected information for our internal record keeping, to better serve you and provide better products, send you promotional items, to perform the survey, and to better our website.  We will contact you through email or phone any items regarding your account, order and class registration related questions or information.  We will communicate with you and your child through a parent or legal guardian’s phone number or email, not the child’s.  You will have an option to opt-out our mailing list updates or newsletter. 

As with most sites, certain non-personally identifiable information is recorded by the standard operation or our server. Such information may include the name of the Internet Service Provider (ISP) from which a visitor accesses the Internet, the date and time a visitor accessed the site, the Internet address of the website from which a visitor entered our site and where a visitor goes after leaving this website. This information may be used to measure and monitor the use of our website and to improve its content.

Links to and from other websites

Some contents in our website may contain links to other websites.  We will do our best to provide you with reputable website links, but we are not responsible and cannot guarantee for the contents and the privacy policy for the websites we link.  Moreover, some other websites may link you from their websites to the Bionerds Site.  We cannot guarantee and control the contents and privacy policy on those other websites as well.

Bionerds website uses cookie technology.  A cookie will help you personalize your needs by remembering your preferences online.  The cookie traffic log will enable us to improve our site and service to you.  We only use this data for website analysis purposes.  If you choose to decline cookies, most Internet browsers contain settings that enable you to do it.

Change(s) to our privacy policy will be posted on our website. Review Bionerds Privacy Policy

Dear Bionerds client,

Hands-on science experiments and activities are a great way to introduce to our children the wonderful living things surround us. This hands-on learning will help them understand better and satisfy their curiosity. As wonderful and exciting these activities are, they also involve risks. Please read this form carefully and be aware that in registering your child for participation in Bionerds program(s), you will be waiving and releasing all claims for injuries your child might sustain arising out of the said program(s).

By registering your child for Bionerds’ program(s), you are aware of the inherent, as well as unknown, unforeseen, unanticipated, and unsuspected risk of injury, bites, allergic reactions, trauma, death, and property damage associated with hands-on science activities in class or at home. In the laboratory, classroom or at home, your child will be introduced to and worked with to include but not limited to chemicals, laboratory tools, and equipment, as well as living and preserved organisms.  As part of this agreement, you acknowledge that all such risks exist and that you have allowed your child to attend the workshop or join at-home activities knowing of these risks and all of their possible consequences. You acknowledge further that injury, trauma, death, or damage may occur even when Bionerds and others have exercised due and reasonable care in relation to your child. You aware that you need to supervise your children during at-home activities and submission of the project online. 

As a parent or guardian of your child, you agree to waive any claim you may have against Bionerds, Inc, its officers, its agents, and all of the employees on the injury, death, and property damage resulting from the risks described above. You agree further to waive and not to assert any claim for injury, death, or property or any other damage against Bionerds, Inc, its officers, its agents, and all of the employees. In the event any dispute arises between you, either personally or on behalf of your child, and Bionerds, Inc, or their personnel, that dispute will be decided according to the laws of the State of California.

It is very important for your child to follow Laboratory Rules and Safety Guidelines (https://www.bionerdsllc.com/index.php/laboratory-safety/) and Participant Code of Conduct (https://www.bionerdsllc.com/index.php/participant-code-of-conduct/) provided by Bionerds, Inc. It is important for you to review these guidelines with your child to ensure understanding and cooperation when working in the laboratory. It is important that you contact and inform Bionerds, Inc personnel directly and not through your child in the event in which you do not want your child to participate or any other concern. By signing this document, you understand and agree that in the event your child causes any harm or damage to another child, including being responsible for indemnifying Bionerds, Inc, and its personnel should they be forced to defend themselves in connection with any resulting lawsuit or claim.

In the event of any illness or injury, I hereby consent to whatever X-ray, examination, anesthetic, medical, dental or surgical diagnosis or treatment and hospital care from a licensed physician and/or surgeon as deemed necessary for the safety and welfare of my child. It is understood that the resulting expenses will be the responsibility of the parent(s) or guardian(s) or participant.

I understand that I will be responsible to pay the balance of the total amount of the class fee, if any, according to Bionerds and/or our contract facility’s refund/agreement policy. When a charter fund is used to pay for the program and Purchase Order (PO) is cancelled or stopped prior to completion of class due to such as early withdrawal, registration cancellation from the family end, or insufficient fund, I will be responsible to pay the balance in full.

I hereby consent the photographing, recording, reproduction of any other manner (including use of video and audiotapes) of the likeness, voice and/or activities of the participant and further authorize Bionerds, Inc to make unlimited use of company promotions, including but not limited to broadcasting of reproductions over the radio, television, and on the Internet (including social networking). I understand that I will not receive any monetary compensation now or in the future of participating. I do hereby release and hold harmless Bionerds, Inc, its officers, and employees from any claims.

I understand that programs offered by Bionerds, Inc are not designed to replace standard school curriculum and have no school credit to any institutions. They are designed to boost your child’s awareness of his or her surrounding, learn about biology and related science and most importantly, have fun at the same time.

Online Classes

The live video conference performed during online class will be recorded. Please read through the following guidelines so we can maintain a safe experience for all participants.

  1. We will send you a link to join the Zoom class meeting. You will NOT need to set up a Zoom account or input any information except for student’s first name and last name initial. Please go to Zoom.us for more details about their system and its privacy and terms of use policy. 
  2. The meeting will be live and interactive. Please make sure your student is in a quiet place where a parent can monitor the session. Please remember that everything within the camera viewing area will be visible to the teacher and other students. Please be aware that there may be online media that contain references, ads, or links to materials from third parties. Bionerds, Inc. is not associated with those third parties.
  3. Sounds & voices can be captured by your device’s microphone and heard by others in the Zoom session. Teachers will mute participants for portions of the session but may unmute participants during discussion or to hear questions.
  4. During live sessions, participants may hear and see anything within the audio and camera viewing areas. Please make all household members aware of this. Hanging “Live Video Session” signs around the area or turning the monitor/device camera toward a wall can help with controlling the area.
  5. These sessions will be recorded for viewing by students who were unable to attend that session or for the attending students to review the materials again if needed.
  6. Please review our Participant Code of Conduct policy (https://www.bionerdsllc.com/index.php/participant-code-of-conduct/) and discuss responsible & appropriate behavioral expectations with your student that may applicable online. 
  7. All the video recordings, presentations and their contents shared to parents and students are under copyright protection law. Do not share, duplicate, reproduce, or perform other activities to violate the copyright law.

I give permission for my student to participate in the Bionerds online classes using the Zoom video conferencing service. I understand that the live session may be recorded and may contain audio & video interactions that include my student. You understand and agree that in the event any dispute arises between you, either personally or on behalf of your child, and Bionerds, Inc, or their personnel, that dispute will be decided according to the laws of the State of California.

Excursion/Field Trip Waiver and Medical Authorization

I fully understand that my child is to accept all rules and requirements governing conduct during the field trip. It is understood that any child determined to be in violation, or unfulfilling of this behavior standard will be sent home at the parents' or guardians' expense. Parent or guardian has to be ready to pick up the child anytime during the field trip.

I, the undersigned, hereby release and discharge Bionerds, its members and employees (herein collectively referred to as "Company") from all liability arising out of or in connection with the described field trip or excursion. For the purposes of this agreement, liability means all claims, demands, losses, causes of action, suits, or judgments of any and every kind that I, my heirs, executors, administrators or assignees may have against the Company because of any death, personal injury or illness, or because of any loss or damage to property that occurs during the described field trip or excursion and that results from any cause other than the negligence of the Company.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) related safety

I understand parents/guardians and participants must adhere to all safety and behavior guidelines implemented by the state of California and/or local government/agencies regarding COVID-19 to ensure both students and teachers safety, such as wearing masks, social distancing guidelines, and more. Parents or guardians are responsible to notify Bionerds if at least one of the questions below regarding your child’s overall health has changed DAILY. Do NOT bring your child to camp if your child is experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms or feel sick in general before the day of our program. If your child is experiencing any general sickness or COVID-19 symptoms in class, a parent or guardian must pick up the child immediately from the classroom. Refer to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website for more information about COVID-19 (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html).

By signing this document, you acknowledge that you have read it in its entirety, that you understand its contents, meaning, and effect, and that you have agreed to its terms completely and voluntarily. You also acknowledge by your signature that you accept the allocation of risks and responsibility as between Bionerds, Inc and yourself set forth in this agreement. Bionerds, Inc is relying on your consent to the terms of this agreement in its operation generally and in allowing your child, in particular, to attend.
