Site Rules Violating any of the following rules will result in loss of lift ticket and removal from the approved list of speedriders at Arctic Valley. - When picking up your lift ticket, please tell the ticket seller or lodge manager that you are hoping to fly your Speedwing and give them your name. They will compare to the approved list and be sure you have completed this waiver and the other requirements.
- Season pass holders must check in at the ticket counter.
- Pilots may only fly a wing they hold at least a -2 rating for.
- Exception: For the 2023-24 ski season, a pilot may fly a speedwing if they hold an M-2 rating.
- Pilots must hold a PS Special Skill.
- Be sure to understand the allowed takeoff and landing zones, and never fly in a closed zone. Zone 2 is permanently closed. Zone 3 will be closed on Saturdays, race/event days, some Sundays, and busy weekdays. Check at the ticket counter for the status of each zone.
- Pilots should have 100 flights in Zone 1 before flying in Zones 3 or 4.
- Pilots must understand and follow all rules in FAR Part 103.
- Per FAA regulations, flyers must have a minimum of 1 mile of visibility. Flying will not be allowed at Arctic Valley on days with limited visibility.
- Never fly over or under any chairlifts. Maintain a distance of at least 100 feet horizontally from chairlifts at all times.
- Try to keep at least a 100 ft bubble away from other skiers and do not impede their path while setting up, skiing/flying and landing.
- Never fly over a race course or grouping of skiers/riders
- Do not fly over other skiers (buzz).
- At the end of the day do not hold up Ski Patrol when they are doing their final sweep.
- Always plan your landings so that you are away from skiers and won’t have to set your canopy down in front of them.
- After landing, please gather up canopy in a timely manner as a left-out canopy is the universal sign that the pilot is injured or there is a problem.
- Canopies must be stowed in a stuff sack before getting on any lift. Loose canopies are not allowed on the lifts.
- No barrel rolls or other aerobatics.
- Make sure skis are securely mounted before launching. We can never have a ski fall off. Riders must keep skis on at all times.
- Only use Speedwing harnesses. No seat boards allowed.
Best Practices - When riding the lift with a backpack harness, it is best to lengthen the right shoulder strap and pull over head outside shoulder so that you are not forced to be sitting on the edge of chair lift with backpack against back of chair. Single riders should sit on the inside seat (closest to the towers).
- If using poles, Z-poles (collapsible poles) are required. Poles strapped to back of harness are a hazard. Poles are not usually required if you can skate on your skis.
- From the start- get harness on with canopy properly attached, then stow quick stuff sack and clip to your front chest area with biner to upper shoulder straps. Stuff sack can be stowed in coat or seat pocket if you have.
- Communicate with bystanders if their position poses a risk to them or you.
- If winds are too strong, then ski down to where they are lower or wait until the winds subside. PLAY IT SAFE. The ski area may close to speedriders at any time if dangerous wind conditions develop.
- Ski Taxi (stay on slope) where air is turbulent and try landing up the slope a ways and taxi down to canopy set down.
- Communication Devices: Use 2M Handheld Radio if you have them. USHPA frequency 151.955. Communication is vital in an emergency but also very useful tool for many other situations, like when someone is on top and can report changing weather conditions or when ever there is an unknown delay. Cell phone coverage is spotty at many parts of ski area.

I further agree to RELEASE FROM LIABILITY and to INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS the organizers and sponsors of Alpine Recreation Activities including Arctic Valley Ski Area and the Anchorage Ski Club, Inc., their agents, affiliated companies, directors, officers, members, employees, and volunteers for damage, injury or death to myself or to any person or property, whether caused by their negligence or for any other reason, in any way connected with my preparation or practice in Alpine Recreation Activities. I agree that this Agreement is intended to be interpreted as broadly as possible, and that if any portion of this Agreement is found to be void or unenforceable, the remaining portion will remain in full force and effect.

I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A LIABILITY RELEASE AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT WHICH MAY PREVENT ME OR ANY OTHER PERSON FROM RECOVERING ANY DAMAGES IN THE EVENT OF DEATH OR ANY INJURY. I NEVERTHELESS ENTER INTO THIS AGREEMENT FREELY AND VOLUNTARILY AND AGREE THAT IT IS BINDING UPON ME, MY HEIRS, ASSIGNS, AND LEGAL REPRESENTATIVES. I HAVE READ THIS AGREEMENT, UNDERSTAND THAT I HAVE GIVEN UP SUBSTANTIAL RIGHTS BY SIGNING IT, AND FREELY AGREE TO BE BOUND BY ITS TERMS.
