Registration Form

The following information will be used to complete a document that you will read and then sign.

This form is required for any activities at The Climbing Experience.

A number of children at the same address can be on one form.

Welcome to The Climbing Experience

The term “climbing” includes bouldering, traversing, slacklining and related activities.

Climbing at The Climbing Experience will expose you, and anyone you are supervising, to inherent risks of injury.

Risks

By completing this form you will be signing and agreeing that you have read and fully understand all of the terms & conditions of participation in indoor climbing at The Climbing Experience; and that you understand and agree with the BMC’s participation statement regarding all associated risks involved within climbing related activities.

“The British Mountaineering Council recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement,’’

The centre has flooring and softer boulder matting designed to limit the likelihood and severity of injury, however as a consequence of taking part, injuries can and do occur. Soft flooring does not make climbing any safer.

Climbing beyond your capabilities on any wall is likely to result in a fall. Any fall may result in an injury despite the safety systems in place to avoid it. You must make your own assessment of the risks whenever you climb.

We have placed Terms and Conditions, rules and good practice notices around the centre. Please read these and be careful.

By climbing at The Climbing Experience, you are accepting the risks of participation.

Any questions contact centre staff.

I have read, understood and accept the risks.

Conditions of Use

Our Duty of Care – The rules of the climbing centre set out below are not intended to limit your enjoyment of the facilities. They are part of the duty of care that we, as operators, owe to you, the customer, by law. As such they are not negotiable and if you are not prepared to abide by them then the centre staff may ask you to leave.

Your Duty of Care – You also have a duty of care to act responsibly towards the other users of the centre. Statements of ‘Good Practice’ are posted around the centre adjacent to the relevant facilities. These describe the accepted methods of use and how customers would normally be expected to behave towards each other.

Registration – You must have completed our registration procedure before you participate in any climbing activity.

Unsupervised Climbing (Bouldering Wall) – Before you climb without supervision the centre expects you to be a competent boulderer. You are required to register to say that you know how to boulder safely, that you are prepared to abide by the rules below and that you understand the risks involved in your participation. You may be asked to provide evidence of your competency at registration or first use of the centre.

Anyone who has not registered to climb unsupervised is classed as a novice and must not climb without supervision.

Unsupervised climbing is just that! If you are not confident in the use of any climbing equipment or technique, then do not attempt to use it without the supervision of someone who is competent to do so. Staff will provide whatever help and advice they can, but instruction in the use of equipment or climbing techniques will only be provided where it has been booked and paid for in advance.

Supervised Climbing (Bouldering Wall) – An adult who has registered to climb unsupervised at the centre may supervise up to two novice climbers, as long as they are prepared to take full responsibility for the briefing of safe practice and safety of those people. Centre staff may provide help and advice. However, this does not constitute supervision or instruction, unless in a pre-booked instructed session. When agreed with centre management, competent 16 & 17-year-old registered competent boulderers can also supervise up to two novices.

Personal Property – The Climbing Experience accepts no responsibility for any loss of or damage to customer’s personal property whether in lockers or otherwise.

Children – All children (under 16) in the centre (even when not climbing) must be supervised by an adult unless they are; in a lesson with us, in a Fun Wall session, or have been assessed by the management and registered for unsupervised climbing. In addition to the obvious risks of climbing, children on the ground are at particular risk of being seriously injured by falling climbers. Supervising adults are responsible for making sure that children are never directly below climbers. Please advise staff if you think children are not properly supervised.

Under 18s Information (Bouldering Wall)

Age 16 – 18

Children aged 16+ may use the centre on the same terms as adults, as long as they have a signed consent form from their parent or legal guardian.

Age 7 – 15

All children under 16 must be properly supervised when climbing, unless they have passed our Competent Boulderer Test (more information below). Supervision terms are the same as when supervising adults, with the following additions:

  • Supervisors must always be with their climbers.
  • We recommend that children under 10 are best supervised one-to-one.

Age 5 - 7

  • Under 7s must be supervised at a 1:1 ratio
  • It is advised that the supervisor is a parent or legal guardian.
  • Under 7's climbing finishes at 14:30 on weekends and bank holidays and 7pm on weekdays.
  • We recommend children under 7 first try our Fun Walls before bouldering.

You do not have to pay if you are supervising and not climbing.

It is recommended that children bouldering for the first time do so in an instructed session.

Under 5

For ages between 3 and 7, we recommend you try our fun wall; it’s a very good introduction to climbing and is much more suitable for younger children. The minimum age to use the bouldering wall is 5, this includes instructed sessions.

Competent Boulderer Test (14-16)

This 20-minute test checks that you know how to use a bouldering wall correctly and safely. After the test you can then use the bouldering wall without adult supervision. This test is for over-14s. The test is free if you hold NIBAS Level 3. In exceptional circumstances, children under 14 may be permitted to take the test, when agreed with centre management.

I have read, understood and accept the conditions of use.
