Location: Vertical Rock Climbing & Fitness Center – Manassas, Virginia, and any other VR Facilities or outdoor locations used for this program This Merit Badge Climbing Program Addendum (“Addendum”) is incorporated into, and is in addition to, the Participant Agreement: Assumption of Risk, Release & Indemnification Agreement (the “Agreement”) that I have signed or executed electronically in favor of Vertical Rock, Inc. (“VR”). This Addendum does not limit, replace, or reduce the Agreement in any way; it supplements that Agreement by describing additional risks and activities specific to participation in a Merit Badge Climbing Course offered by or through VR. I/We understand that climbing, rappelling, and related skills instruction are physically demanding indoor and outdoor activities that involve inherent risks, including but not limited to:Slips, trips, and falls on uneven terrain or climbing surfaces, Falls while on rope, autobelays, bouldering, or rappelling, Impact from falling objects, equipment, or climbing wall structures and attachments, Rope burns, abrasions, sprains, strains, fractures, and other injuries, Exposure to heat, cold, weather, animals, insects, and other environmental hazards, Risks associated with transportation to and from the activity I/We acknowledge that Vertical Rock Inc, Its Programming, Instructors, Volunteers, or Safety Procedures Cannot Eliminate All Risks associated with climbing and rappelling. I understand that Scouting America policies, including Climb On Safely, the Guide to Safe Scouting, and related standards are used to reduce risk, but they cannot guarantee my safety. I/We agree to, and understand that participation in the Program requires certain minimum skills, physical abilities, and behaviors, including but not limited to: Following all instructions, safety rules, and commands from instructors and leaders. Good judgment, clear communication and behavior, Use of all required protective equipment (helmet, harness, etc.) as directed. Inform leaders of any medical conditions or physical limitations that may affect my participation. Report unsafe conditions or behavior to an instructor or leader immediately. I/We understand that VR and Program instructors may, in their sole discretion, limit or stop my participation in some or all activities if they believe it is unsafe for me or others, and that this may occur even if I would otherwise be willing to continue. Acknowledgement of Training Limits I/We acknowledge that: Completion of the Program and any associated requirements does not certify me (or my child) as a professional climber, guide, instructor, or belayer; Passing any skills demonstration, belay test, or merit badge requirement during the Program does not guarantee that VR will grant belay privileges at its facilities; such privileges remain subject to VR’s own testing standards, rules, and policies; The skills taught in the Program may not be sufficient to climb, rappel, or belay safely outside of a supervised environment, and any independent use of those skills involves additional risks beyond the control of VR or Program instructors. Additional Assumption of Risk and Agreement By signing below, I acknowledge and agree that: 1.I have read this Addendum, I understand the additional activities and risks associated with the Merit Badge Climbing Program, and I voluntarily choose to participate (or to allow my minor child to participate) in this Program.
2. I freely accept and assume all additional risks described in this Addendum, in addition to those set forth in the Agreement, including the risk of personal injury, death, property damage, and other loss arising from or in any way related to my participation in the Program. 3.All terms, releases, waivers, and indemnification provisions contained in the Agreement apply fully to the Merit Badge Climbing Program and all related instructional, indoor, and outdoor activities, and this Addendum shall be interpreted consistently with, and as a part of, that Agreement. I/We have had the opportunity to ask questions about the activity, associated risks, and safety procedures. All of my questions have been answered to our satisfaction. |
