The Florida Elementary Music Educators Association is sponsoring Regional Music Festival ensembles for students of the association’s member music teachers. Students and parents (or guardians) should read the accompanying materials prior to the audition process conducted concurrently with FMEA All-State auditions and to sign to indicate agreement with the principles and rules stated. Audition Procedures The music teacher of the sponsoring school must be an active member of FMEA and FEMEA and abide by all regulations, deadlines, and audition requirements set forth herein and in the FEMEA All-State packets. The music director signing this form agrees to register and attend the 2024 FEMEA Regional Music Festival selected and to be responsible for assigning chaperones for this student, if accepted, at the rehearsals and concert. Student agrees to attend the event if selected. If a student is selected and unable to attend, the music teacher is required to notify FEMEA Chair, President, and Executive Director by October 14, and give the reason for not attending. The Executive Committee will then rule the absenteeism to be excused or not excused. Unexcused absences may result in disqualification of a school’s eligibility to participate in Regional Festival ensembles in the following year. Last minute emergencies will be handled on a “case by case” basis. Release for Media The signatures below grant permission to FEMEA to reproduce, print, or publish, including FEMEA Social Media and Website, photographs or audio/video recordings of my minor child selected to a FEMEA Regional Music Festival performing ensemble. This permission includes all rehearsals, activities and performances connected to the FEMEA Regional Music Festival location. I also acknowledge my child’s name will be published in the FEMEA Regional Music Festival program, website, and will appear in lists of Regional Festival students available to all FMEA members. Registration and Chaperones All attendees (music teachers, students, chaperones, friends, guests) must be registered to attend the FEMEA Regional Music Festival and concert. Only music teachers may register students or chaperones. Only music teachers may pick up registration materials at the festival location, if pre-registered. All participating students must be chaperoned. In order for a child to participate in the festival, the parent/guardian must serve as a chaperone for the duration of the rehearsals and concert or designate an adult guardian (who is given a letter to consent to medical treatment) to serve as chaperone. If a participating student is not accompanied by the music teacher from that child’s school, the music teacher must still register for the festival and the principal from the school must furnish a letter, in advance of registration, designating the person to be responsible for that student. The letter should be addressed to the FEMEA Executive Director and submitted with the music teacher’s festival registration materials. Failure to observe this policy may result in the participating school being excluded from participation the following school year. Name badges must be worn by all festival attendees (students, teachers, chaperones and guests). Student observers or other children are not permitted to attend the festival or rehearsals. Chaperones and teachers must make babysitting arrangements for their children who are not participating in a festival ensemble, as they will not be allowed in or around rehearsals. Student Rules Students accepted for participation in any FEMEA Regional Music Festival ensemble agree to attend the festival and participate fully in all scheduled rehearsals and performances of their assigned ensemble. Dates and locations for the FEMEA Regional Music Festivals are posted on the FEMEA website. Students must be accompanied by their chaperone during the festival including rehearsals, meals, breaks and performances. Students are expected to wear appropriate clothing (school dress code) and follow standard school behavior expectations. Parent/Guardian Agreements Decisions of the judges are final and audition recordings cannot be reheard. Parent/guardian assumes the responsibility for all lodging, food, transportation costs and costs of ensemble participation. Costs include $25.00 for the audition fee, $79.00 for the participation fee. There are no costs for chaperones and each child’s family/friends is entitled to up to four seats (depends on capacity of hall) in the concert hall (tickets are placed in registration packet onsite). Only chaperones registered for the festival will be allowed to observe rehearsals. Each child must have the following items for performance: black dress pant/slacks (no jeans), a white, long-sleeved buttoned-down shirt/blouse that can be tucked in (no t-shirts) and black low-heeled dress shoes. Music is selected solely for artistic merit and may be patriotic or religious in nature, though no religious viewpoint will be promoted.
