Sender One Orientation Checklist

Facility Orientation

Participant understands:

1. Waiver must be reviewed, completed, and signed.

2. All guests and members must check-in at the Front Desk before proceeding further into the facility.

3. Facility Rules:

a. No instruction by non-staff permitted or allowed.

b. No bouldering in the rope climbing area.

c. Shoes must be worn while climbing and while in designated fitness areas.

4. Qualification Process:

a. Must be aware of hazards/risks of climbing generally, Bouldering, Top Rope Climbing, Lead Climbing, and Auto-Belay use.

2. Must take Top Rope Check before top rope belaying.

3. Must take Lead Climbing Check before lead climbing or lead belaying.

4. Must receive Auto-Belay Check and Orientation before using auto-belay outside of Sender City.

5. Locations:

a. Locker Rooms

b. Fitness Area

c. Yoga Room

d. Bouldering Area

e. Route/Rope Climbing Area

6. Lead Climbing Only Area

7. Sender City (separate charge)

8. Mezzanines

9. Group Activity rooms and areas

6. Policies for Minors:

a. Must be 14 or older to Top Rope Belay, use Auto-Belay outside of Sender City, Lead Climb, or Lead Belay, unless otherwise authorized by Sender One staff.

2. Children 13 & under must be supervised by an adult at all times, unless otherwise authorized by Sender One staff.

Bouldering Orientation

Participant understands:

1. Inherent risks of bouldering:

a. Holds can spin or break.

b. All falls are ground falls.

c. You will fall when bouldering.

d. Falls may result in injury.

e. Injuries can be severe.

2. Facility rules for bouldering:

a. Bouldering grading system

b. Where allowed

c. Maximum height

d. Topping out

e. Age restrictions

3. Awareness of surroundings:

a. Clear landing area

b. Location of other climbers

4. Purpose and limitations of padded flooring:

a. No guarantee of safety

b. Mitigation measure only

5. Down-climbing.

6. Falling technique.

7. Climbing a "boulder problem".

I have received a Bouldering Orientation, reviewed the above, and agree to abide by Sender One bouldering rules and policies.

Top Rope Belayer Orientation

Belayer understands:

1. Must pass Sender One Top Rope Check.

2. Inherent risks of climbing, including, but not limited to:

a. Improper belay technique.

b. User error.

c. Inattention.

3. Facility rules for Top Rope belaying:

a. GriGri only.

b. PBUS belay technique only.

c. Figure-8 follow-through and fisherman's finish knots only.

d. Fitting and securing of harness.

e. Correct attachment of belay device to harness.

f. Double-check of self and climber.

g. Verbal climbing commands.

8. Proficient belay technique:

a. Attentiveness.

b. Proper device configuration.

c. Proper positioning.

d. Takes rope smoothly.

e. Controls brake at all times.

f. Appropriate behavior.

g. Clear communication.

h. Lowering in control.

i. Only Staff are authorized to instruct participants.

Top Rope Climber Orientation

Climber understands:

1. Must pass Sender One Top Rope Check to belay.

2. Facility rules for Top Rope climbing.

3. Fitting and securing of harness.

4. Knots tied correctly: figure-8 follow-through and fisherman's finish knots.

5. Correct tie-in to harness.

6. Double-check of self and belayer.

7. Verbal climbing commands.

8. Proficient climbing technique:

a. Awareness of surroundings.

b. Climbs confidently and on route.

9. Only Staff are authorized to instruct participants.

I have reviewed the above, and agree to abide by Sender One top rope climbing rules and policies.

Lead Climbing Orientation

Participant understands:

1, Must pass Sender One Top Rope Check first.

2, Must have personal rope of sufficient minimum length, which may vary from Sender One facility to facility.

3. Must use an assisted braking belay device approved for use at Sender One facilities.

4. Must pass Sender One Lead Check.

5. After Lead Check, participant must agree to the contents of and sign Sender One's Lead Climbing Form.

6. Only Staff are authorized to instruct participants.

Autobelay Orientation

Participant understands:

1. Must pass Sender One Top Rope Belay Check.

2. Must pass Sender One Autobelay Check.

3. Inherent risks of using an autobelay:

a. Climbing alone at height

b. Improper or non-use of autobelay

c. User error

d. Inattention

e. Severe or catastrophic injury

4. Facility rules for autobelay use:

a. Only used for the speed route.

b. Must be 14 years or older to be used without adult supervision.

c. Checking in and out for access to autobelay at front desk.

d. Highly recommend using speed wall with other climbers to mitigate risks of climbing alone.

5. Fitting and securing of harness.

6. Correct attachment of autobelay device to harness.

7. Double-check of self and autobelay function.

8. Lowering technique and clear landing area.

9. Reporting autobelay issues to front desk.

Participant Statement

As a climber at a Sender One facility, I understand that I require orientation and/or training before participating in climbing activities at a Sender One facility. I understand that while their general offerings may be similar, Sender One facilities can vary in their specific layouts, design, equipment, amenities, and overall content. I understand Sender One may require me to pass an assessment or assessments prior to allowing me to participate in certain activities. I understand that if I need additional assistance, orientation, instruction, training or assessment during my participation at a Sender One facility at any future time that it is my responsibility to seek such assistance, orientation, instruction, training or assessment from Sender One staff prior to participating in any activity for which I am not trained or qualified. My signature indicates that I understand the information above and that the climbing gym staff has presented this information to me.
