Sunless Tanning Information
Spray tanning is accomplished by application of a solution containing the active ingredient: DHA (Dihydroxyacetone). DHA is considered to be safe and has been FDA approved ONLY if you follow guildlines to protect mucous membranes. The FDA advises asking the following questions when considering the application of DHA by spraying or misting:
- Are you protected from exposure in the entire area of the eyes, in addition to the eyes themselves?
- Are you protected from exposure on the lips and all parts of the body covered by mucous membrane?
- Are you protected from internal exposure caused by inhaling or ingesting the product?
If the answer to any of these questions is "no," you (hereinafter, "Client") are not protected from the unapproved use of DHA. Client should request measures to protect your eyes and mucous membranes and prevent inhalation, such as nasal filters, which will be provided upon request.
Pre Tanning Tips:
Book your tan at least 1-2 days prior to your event for optimal color.
Do not spray tan if you have a sunburn it will not apply properly and you will not be happy.
Do any waxing or electrolysis at minimum a day before, never book a wax or electrolysis AFTER you've had your spray tan. Shaving the day of is okay (8 hours prior would be ideal), just be careful not to cut yourself, I've seen clients with cuts that applied band-aids which they forget to remove before the tan, it will be noticeable.
Do book your manicure and pedicure BEFORE your spray tan, otherwise the soaking, scrub and oils used in the pedicure process will remove your color and will be noticeably lighter than the rest of you.
Prior to your scheduled appointment be sure to thoroughly Shower and Exfoliate (24 hours is ideal). By using an oil free body scrub to exfoliate your entire body before a tanning session your skin will be optimal for an even application. If you shower within an hour of your appointment, ensure it is not a super-hot shower, this will cause your skin to get hot and the steam from the shower will open up your pores allowing the spray tan solution to settle into your skin unevenly or develop tiny dark spots.
Your skin should be clean and dry. Do not apply lotion the day of your appointment as some lotions may act as a barrier. If you do, please shower or wipe it all off with a cloth prior to your tan.
Skin should be free of makeup and deodorant otherwise if left on it acts as a barrier therefor you will not see optimal results in your color, your face will not tan evenly and it may appear blotchy, the success of your spray tan application is based on you having a clean face and neck this is very important. If you do not thoroughly remove all makeup your face will be considerably lighter in color compared to the rest of you so please take the extra step and properly remove it all.
Post Tanning Tips:
Wear loose fitting zip up dark clothes after your session. Wearing jeans, baseball hat, socks, uggs, sports bras and tight collared shirts are NOT recommended.
The duration of your tan do not use make-up remover wipes as they exfoliate your skin, which means the spray tan on your face will not last at all. Instead use a Q-tip and dip it in oil-free make-up remover and carefully take off your make-up, then rinse with your cleanser and water.
Do not shower for at minimum 8-10 hours after your spray tan, the longer you can leave on the better. If you can sleep with the solution on overnight this will allow for your best color. (**if you are tanning with the rapid solution the time limit is 2 1/2 to 5 hours depending on your desired level of darkness and you will need to shower to the remove the solution from your skin within that time).
Do not sweat, perspire or go to the gym until AFTER your first shower. This means if it's summertime and your spray tanning in the morning or afternoon, you'll want to ensure that you'll be in a cool place or in a location with a fan while your color develops. For example, you do not want to get a spray tan then go sit outside at a cookout in hot and humid weather that will cause excessive perspiration, your tan will run and streak.
When you shower use body wash or liquid soap. Avoid bar soap (unless it’s Glo Soap Bar) other soap bars you must apply to your hands and lather before applying. Do not use body scrubs while in the shower during the duration of your spray tan, and do not use exfoliating body washes or loofah’s for the length of your tan.
Try to shave every other day, shaving is a form of exfoliating, you want to try to minimize it during your tan.
Nothing on your skin until AFTER your first shower (this is imperative, as in no lotion, no makeup, and no moisturizer).
After your first shower PAT dry off with your towel, never rub dry with a towel, only PAT dry your skin with a spray tan. Then MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE your skin. Nothing with alpha hydroxy or harsh exfoliating creams. The more you moisturize the longer the tan will last! This allows for even fading. Do NOT use any oils or fragrance ones they will strip your color. Use only a water based moisturizer.
I also carry tan extenders for my solution lines just let me know if your interested before your appointment.
If you are spray tanning to go away make sure you purchase oil free SPF 15 or greater in a cream based product. Do NOT use the sunscreen aerosol sprays as it contains ingredients that will effect the color and cause it to fade much quicker. *Other safe brands: Alba Botanica Fragrance Free Sunscreens, Sun Bum Natural Browning Lotions, CVS Oil Free Broad Spectrum SPF 15 Sunscreen, Coopertone Oil Free Sunscreen Lotion, and Coppertone Pure & Simple Sunscreen Lotion.

All people are different. All ingredients used in this procedure are intended for cosmetic use and generally regarded as safe. There are, however, occasions where individuals may be allergic to one or more ingredients in the spray tan solution. Please read the ingredients list if you have any known allergies.
Be advised there is a small percentage of people whose skin may not react favorably to spray tanning. For this reason, we do NOT advise being sprayed for the first time when your appearance is critical (wedding/special occasion). For this reason I advise a trial at least a month before your event.
