100 Yard Range info: - Commonly referred to as the Rifle Range. All WCGC Range Rules must be followed in addition.
- All caliber rifles up to, but not including, .50 BMG can be used at this range. Muzzleloading/black powder rifles .50 caliber or larger can be used. Only shotguns using rifled slugs can be used.
- Eye and ear protection are required while on the range.
- Range can be closed for public use for special events.
- No cross range shooting. Shoot only at the target directly in front of your shooting position.
- Free Paper Targets are available for use on public days. Steel Target Rentals are available on the R/P Range during public hours. Steel Targets will be painted white for each use. Steel Targets must not be placed closer than 100 yards on the Rifle Range. Must leave ID as Rental Deposit.
- When a cease fire is called (anyone can call a cease fire), all firing stops, firearms are unloaded, magazine, clip or additional ammunition removed, action is opened, and firearm is placed in one of the rifle racks. If the action cannot be locked back (most AK-47 type rifles), then a chamber flag or empty cartridge case is to be placed in the action and the bolt closed on it.
- All shooters/observers are to step back, away from the benches/firing line. When range is called safe, usually by the person who called the cease fire, the flag/sign is placed on the range and persons are allowed to go to their targets for inspection, replacement, removal or repositioning.
- All persons not downrange stay behind the benches/firing line. The handling of ammunition or other firearms/components is prohibited.
- Replacement targets are located in the target shed on the west side of the 100-yard line (when open to the public).
- The person who removed the flag/sign does a visual and verbal inspection to ensure the downrange area is clear, then calls the range clear and open.
- When moving rifles from the rack to the firing line, the muzzle is to be pointed up until at the firing line. Then, the muzzle should be rotated and pointed downrange.
- At no time should the muzzle be pointed cross range or down the firing line.
- Shooting is permitted only from the benches. Shooting in front of, behind or above the benches is prohibited.
- Eye and ear protection are required at all times.
200 Yard Range info: - All WCGC Range Rules must be followed in addition.
- The WCGC 200 Yard Range is OPEN to members Monday thru Friday, Sunrise to Sunset, unless noted on the WCGC Calendar as "Closed for Private Use".
- During public hours of operation, access to the 200-yard range is limited to WCGC Board of Directors authorized events and under control of the Range Manager with coordination of the Event Chair or Match Director. EXCEPTION: During public hours of operation, 200 Yard Range is open to members if not in use for special events (Falling Plates/3-Gun/Muzzleloaders/CCW etc.) or if reserved by WCGC Authorized Instructor events. Please check WCGC Calendar for latest updates.
- The WCGC 200-Yard Range is for Current Members, WCGC Certified Firearms Instructors, Law Enforcement and WCGC Special Events use only. No public use allowed. No WCGC RSO on duty on 200-Yard Range, use at own risk.
- To cater to diverse shooting disciplines and optimize range usage, specific time slots have been designated on the 200 Yard Range:
- Sunrise to Noon: This period is reserved for Bench Rest Shooters. This allows for stable, precise shooting in optimal light conditions, minimizing disturbances for those focused on accuracy and minimal movement.
- Noon to Sunset: This period is dedicated to Dynamic Shooters. This accommodates activities requiring more movement, reloads, and varied shooting positions, ensuring adequate space and safety for these more active disciplines.
- EXCEPTION: On weekends, if available, during Member use: Bench Rest use all day.
- All legally approved firearm types are permitted to be used. Modern Rifles 50 Caliber and larger are not allowed. The USFS has banned discharging all modern rifles 50 cal. BMG and larger at WCGC. The restriction is on modern high velocity cartridges, and does not apply to handguns, muzzle-loading firearms, or rifles chambered for one of the early black powder cartridges.
- No Airborne Targets: For the safety of all range users and the integrity of the range, airborne targets, such as drones or thrown objects, are not permitted. This prevents unpredictable trajectories and potential hazards.
- No Rocks on the Range: Under no circumstances should rocks be placed on the range as targets or for any other purpose. Rocks can cause unpredictable ricochets, sending bullets in uncontrolled directions and posing a significant danger to shooters and observers alike.
- Ceasefire Procedures: The coordination of ceasefires is paramount for the safety of everyone on the range. All ceasefires must be clearly communicated and mutually agreed upon by every shooter present on the range. Before anyone proceeds downrange, it is essential to confirm that all firearms are cleared, actions are open, and no one is handling a firearm. Verbal confirmation from each shooter that they understand and agree to the ceasefire is required.
- The Handgun Range and 200 Yard Range are now isolated ranges. No need to coordinate cease fires between the two ranges.
- Hesco Barrier Engagement: The Hesco Barriers are critical safety structures designed to contain errant rounds and absorb impact. Deliberately shooting into these barriers is strictly prohibited as it compromises their integrity and could lead to dangerous ricochets or penetrations.
- The WCGC 200 Yard Range will be intermittently closed for LE Training/WCGC Approved Instructor Private Use during the week. Check the official WCGC Calendar on the WCGC website and emails for notification. www.wcgc.org/calendar
- • If the 200 Yard Range is not “Closed for LE Training/WCGC Approved Instructor Private Use” on the official WCGC Website Calendar, then the Range has not been reserved for private use. Private Range use has not been authorized. Please inform the members on the Range that it is Open to all members and to share the Range. Please show a copy of these Protocols as well as the WCGC Calendar. Be respectful, share the Range.
- Keep our Range CLEAN. Please clean-up / pick-up all brass and spent casing after use. All members, guests of members, private instructors and law enforcement are required to clean up all brass and trash after each use. Rakes, shovels, and trashcans are provided for your use.
