In consideration of my being permitted by Kansas Cliff Club, Inc. (aka Kansas Cliff Club or KCC), to climb at its facilities, I agree to the following waiver and release, and I make the following representations. I acknowledge that Kansas Cliff Club, Inc. has recommended the use of a helmet while climbing or belaying. I agree that it is my choice to wear a helmet or not and assume all responsibility for that decision. If I choose to not wear a helmet at any time while climbing or belaying at Kansas Cliff Club, I hereby release Kansas Cliff Club, Inc. from all liability for any such personal injury that I may incur. This release extends to injuries that may occur through the NEGLIGENCE of gym employees, members, officers or other parties released. I acknowledge that climbing and rappelling are inherently dangerous sports and I fully realize the dangers of participation in climbing and rappelling. I fully assume the risks associated with such participation including by way of example, and not limitation, the following dangers: falling, falling objects, equipment failure, inadequate equipment, weather conditions, bad decision making, inattentive belayers, and the possibility of serious physical and/or mental trauma or injury associated with athletic events. I understand that there are unforeseeable, freakish accidents, and I assume all risks associated with such accidents, even though I cannot foresee them. I agree it is my sole responsibility to be familiar with the club safety rules and agree to follow them. I understand and agree that situations may arise which may be beyond the immediate control of the Kansas Cliff Club, Inc. and I must continually conduct myself so as to endanger neither myself nor others. I accept responsibility for the condition and adequacy of my equipment. I agree to pay attention to the state of all equipment both personal and club property. I agree to report any unsafe equipment or situation. I have no physical or mental condition which, to my knowledge, would endanger myself or others if I participate in Kansas Cliff Club, Inc. I agree that I am responsible for all my guests and or visitors at the facility. All guests and or visitors must have a guest waiver filled out and signed. All individuals climbing must pay a guest day pass. Belaying is only allowed by those individuals who are certified by the Kansas Cliff Club. No other certifications are valid. I will supervise and ensure all club rules and policies are followed by all guests and or visitors at all times. I agree to assume all risk of personal injury, including paralysis and death, that may occur while I am in the gym, or while I am climbing anywhere, at anytime. I hereby release the Kansas Cliff Club, Inc., its owners, officers, employees, members, wall builders, wall designers, hold manufacturers, lessors, insurers and agents, from all liability for any such personal injury that I may incur. This release extends to injuries that may occur through the NEGLIGENCE of gym employees, members, officers or other parties released. I understand that indoor climbing and climbing on artificial structure are not the same as outdoor climbing, and that additional skills are necessary for outdoor climbing that cannot be acquired in the gym. I agree to seek qualified instruction before attempting to climb outdoors. For myself, my heirs, executors, administrators, legal representatives, assignees and successors in interest (hereinafter collectively “successors”) I hereby waive, release, discharge, hold harmless, and promise not to sue and indemnify the Kansas Cliff Club, Inc., property owner/s and their respective agents from any and all damages which may be sustained by me directly in connection with or arising out of my participation in or association with the Kansas Cliff Club, Inc. I agree for myself and successors, that the above representations are contractually binding, and are not mere recitals, and that should I or my successors assert my claim in contravention of this agreement, I or my successors shall be liable for the expense (including legal fees) incurred by the other party or parties in defending. This agreement may not be modified orally, and a waiver of any provision shall not be construed as a modification of any other provision herein or as a consent to any subsequent waiver or modification. General Policies- Everyone who enters onto Kansas Cliff Club premises, to climb or visit, must fully initial and sign a liability release and pay a guest day pass.
- Membership fees are due by the first of each calendar month and are to be paid in full. Payments are made within your account on the kansascliffclub.org website.
- Skills Certification is required to perform any of the following at Kansas Cliff Club:
- Top Rope Belaying
- Lead Climbing and Belaying
- Multi-pitch style Climbing, Anchor Building, Belaying and Descending
- Only authorized Kansas Cliff Club staff members are allowed to certify the above skills.
- Think safety at all times. Double check yourself and partner before each climb. Behave in a manner which promotes the safety of your partner, yourself and others.
- Any unsafe activity or situation should be communicated to the parties involved immediately. All members are responsible for keeping others safe.
- Nobody under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance is allowed on the premises at any time. No alcohol or controlled substances are allowed on the premises at any time. Smoking is not allowed on the premises at any time.
- Animals or pets are not allowed inside the building. Leashes are required on the premises.
- Non-members (guests) are not allowed on the premises without a hosting member present. It is the host member’s responsibility that their guests fully initial and sign a liability release, pay the required guest fee through the website. It is the host member’s responsibility that their guests abide by Kansas Cliff Club policies.
- All personal equipment must be up to current standard and in good working condition.
- Any member or guest under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a member age 18 or over.
- The Kansas Cliff Club does not supply staffing, supervision or equipment. Members and their guests use the facility at their own discretion and risk.
- Monthly lock combinations are provided to current members and are to be kept confidential. Only Kansas Cliff Club staff members are authorized to communicate combinations to members.
- Email is the preferred method of communication with the Kansas Cliff Club.

- Violations of Kansas Cliff Club policies may lead to membership forfeiture without refund.
Rules for Climbing- No high-ball bouldering allowed. Anytime a climber ascends more than five feet above ground level, they must be roped and belayed.
- Roped soloing (self-belaying) is strictly prohibited.
- Only ropes UIAA-approved for climbing may be used. Dynamic rope is preferred for top roping and required for lead climbing. Make sure rope reaches to anchors and back to ground.
- Tie-in knot to be a Rethreaded Figure 8. Tie in directly to harness – no carabiners are to be used for tie-ins.
- It is recommended that the belayer be tied into the rope or that a stopper knot is used to prevent the rope from inadvertently exiting the belay device.
- Only water knots are to be used for tied slings. Sewn slings are preferred.
- All bolts must be clipped when lead climbing. Skipping bolts is not allowed.
- No tied harnesses allowed. Locking carabiners required except for quickdraws. Use only approved belay devices – no body belays or munter hitches.
- Double check buckles, anchors, rigging and knots before each climb.
- No outside climbing if weather is threatening (if you can hear thunder or see lightning) or if icy conditions exist.
- Only purpose made belay gloves should be worn when belaying. Gloves are not required.
- It is recommended that the belayer be standing.
- It is recommended that the belayer be anchored if the climber is heavier.
I understand the policies and rules of the Kansas Cliff Club, both stated and implied, are intended to promote safety and security and to protect members from liability and promise to abide by them.
