Eye and Ear Protection: All participants and spectators must utilize safety glasses and hearing protection in the shooting station areas. Ammunition: Correct ammunition must be used at all times. Only shotguns are permitted to be utilized at Coal Ridge Sporting Clays. Gauges 12, 20,16 & 28 may be utilized. However, all ammunition must be appropriate for the gun in use. Participants are only permitted to carry ammunition that suits their gun, not other gauge ammunition. Ammunition size shall be no larger that a 7.5 shot load. Larger loads carry farther and could cause injury. Only shotguns are permitted on the course. No pistols or rifles Carrying of Gun: All double guns must be broken and carried in an open position either over the participant’s shoulder or under the participant’s arm. Semi-automatic shotguns must be carried with the chamber open and exposed so that all participants can note that the gun is empty. Stations: Only the shooter’s gun is ever to be loaded at any shooting station. Guns may only be loaded through the shooting windows at each station. The gun must be inserted into the window when empty and retracted back from the window when it is also empty. The gun is to be loaded only when inside the window and the gun is then to either be fired or unloaded before the gun is taken back out of the window shooting area. Additional rules regarding general shooting practice are as follows: - Waiver must be filled out by each shooter/spectator
- Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a Parent or Legal Guardian. We do not allow anyone under 25 to bring underage “guests”
- Valid U.S Identification is REQUIRED for all gun rentals, gun liability form must be submitted
- You must be 21 or older to rent a firearm and legally permitted to be in possession of a firearm. It is illegal in the State of West Virginia for any convicted felon to be in possess a firearm.

- Shotguns are carried pointed in a safe direction and Breaches must be open during all transport until in shooting window

- Guns are to be pointed downrange only
- Fingers are kept off trigger until target is called
- Do not walk in front of shooting station or stray from designated trails
- Shots are to be fired only at our moving clay targets (not at our signs, trees, machines, or any other object)
- Do not touch clay trap machines
- If a trap is broken please contact the office, do not attempt to fix machine and/or walk in front of the shooting station or trap
- Shooting is only allowed from designated shooting windows
- Only one shooter permitted in the shooting window at a time
- Only load two shells maximum at a time
- No shell length longer than 2 3/4 inch allowed
- No shot size larger than 7.5 allowed *We allow 7.5, 8 & 9 Shot ONLY any illegal ammo being used will be confiscated
- No slugs allowed
- No tactical shot guns of any kind permitted
- No extension magazines, extended tube or pistol grip shotguns
- Help keep the stations clean and free of debris, discarding your trash and hulls into the trash bin at each station
- Only shotguns allowed on course
- Any person who displays an inability to safely operate their equipment or follow safety procedures will not be permitted to shoot that day
- Shooting may only take place inside shooting windows, only one shooter at a time.
- Shotguns must be unloaded and actions open at all times except when standing on the shooting station and ready to shoot.
- Over/Under and Side by Side shotguns can be stored unloaded with the actions closed only when placed on a gun rack. Once removed from the gun rack, their actions must be opened immediately.
- No shotguns are to be loaded anywhere on the range except at the shooting station and only when the shooter is in the shooting window and ready to shoot.
- No members or guests are allowed to carry more than one gauge of ammunition at any time while at the shooting station.
- Members and guests may never walk in front of any trap house in operation, in case of accidental target release.
- Never approach clay throwers; if a machine is malfunctioning contact a range officer.
- Never try and retrieve any items that fall in front of a shooting station; contact a range employee and he/she will assist in safely retrieving the item.
- Members and guests are required to watch a safety film and sign a safety liability waiver before participating or observing in any range activities.
- All members and guests will make sure before firing that their firearms and ammunition are compatible.
- All members and guests are responsible for picking up their own shell casings and properly disposing of them at designated receptacles.
- Never dispose of unused ammunition on range.
- Handling of any firearms after consuming alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited.
- Any person displaying an inability to safely operate their equipment or follow safety procedures will not be permitted to shoot.
- Always point the firearm muzzle in a safe direction.
- All shooters must ensure before firing that their firearms and ammunition are compatible.
- All persons and ATVs are required to stay on gravel path at all times unless clearly marked as “ATV Parking” or “Safety Area.”
- Do not drive ATVs/golf carts faster than jogging speed (5-10mph).
- Confirm your gun is safe to operate
- Shotgun barrels, other than youth models, shall be a minimum length of 22 inches
- Misfired/dud shell(s) are to be kept in the shooter’s possession or turned in to the Range Safety Officer (RSO) for disposal; at no time should an unfired shell be placed in waste bins
- When not on shooting station, your gun must be empty and the action left open at all times. Over/unders must be carried broke open. 5-Stand shooters must unload and keep action open when moving between shooting stands.
- Load only when on the designated shooting station and only after the shooting area is secure. If you are not in a station, your gun should not be loaded. Never turn around toward others when on station with a loaded gun.
- Shooters must always unload and yield to workers filling or repairing the traps in the field area. All guns must be unloaded and muzzles pointed up or away from persons. Never push the pull cord buttons that release the targets until the worker has left the field area.
- Minors must be under close supervision by a parent or guardian at all times.
- No shooter is ever to enter or remain on said premises if they are under the influence of alcohol or any other drugs or medications, both for their own safety and that of the other shooters.
- Firearms must be in good working condition.
- Should you experience an ammunition or gun malfunction, keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction until the firearm is rendered safe. If the previous shot did not sound normal, when safe check your chamber and bore for blockage
- While waiting your turn to shoot, always ensure your position does not infringe upon other shooter’s line of fire or field of view.
- Practice swings and/or dry pointing at clays, other targets or objects is not permitted unless you are in your designated shooting window.
- The shooting of any wildlife and/or other inanimate objects other than clay targets is strictly forbidden.
- Always stay on the designated pathways. No one allowed in restricted areas or off pathways at any time.
- No one without a valid drivers license is allowed to operate any kind of motor vehicle including but not limited to cars, trucks, golf or clay carts, and any ATV’s.
- No pets allowed without prior permission. If given permission, all pets must be kept on a leash and cleaned up after. At no time are pets allowed in the clubhouse.
- Target key cards are the responsibility of the shooter. Shooter will be charged $500 per card for failure to return their assigned “count up” target key card. Lost prepaid “count down” target key cards are nonrefundable.
- The natural environment or the trap machine can cause targets to break. After 3 broken targets from the same trap machine, it becomes the shooter’s responsibility to notify management of trap problems and skip and go to the next station in order not to be charged for extra targets on shooter’s assigned target key card.
- Please report any unsafe conditions to management immediately.
- All shooters must unload and step out of the shooting window when requested to do so by Coal Ridge Sporting Clays staff. Coal Ridge Sporting Clays reserves the right to deny shooting privileges or access for any unsafe and/or unsportsmanlike conduct. Failure to follow posted rules will result in the shooters removal from the shooting grounds.
- All guests must abide by all signage, rules, policies and regulations posted around the course at all times.
- No alcoholic beverages or recreational drugs are allowed prior or during shooting. No one will be allowed to participate in any shooting activity if deemed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- All guest guns, gear, coolers, shooting carts or ATVs may be subject to safety inspections.
- We are not responsible for any damages to your person, gun or any equipment that falls off of a push cart, shooting cart or ATV for any reason, whether it’s yours or Coal Ridge Sporting Clay’s cart. All drivers of a shooting cart/ATV, whether it is yours or Coal Ridge Sporting Clays, must possess a valid automobile driver’s license.
- No shooting cart/ATV speeding. Speeding is considered driving faster than a person jogging, or staff’s judgment. Speeders will be asked to leave for the day with no refund, NO WARNINGS!
- Only drive in a clockwise rotation. All shooting cart riders must be seated. No hanging or standing on the back of a shooting cart/ATVs. No more than four (4) riders per shooting cart.
- Children under 3 years old are not permitted on the course. Children over 3 years old may be on the course as long as they are able to safely keep ear and eye protection on. Minimum age to shoot is based on the individual child’s physical maturity and ability to safely handle a firearm (recommended minimum age is 11 years old). It is up to the discretion of Coal Ridge Sporting Clay Management, Range Safety Officers, and/or Coal Ridge Sporting Clay Instructors as to whether or not they can safely handle a firearm.
- Coal Ridge Sporting Clays Management or Range Safety Officers (RSO) have the final determination on safety.
- All shooting cart riders must be seated. Guests may not stand or hang off the back of a shooting cart or ATV.
- Coal Ridge Sporting Clays is not responsible, for any reason, for injury to your person or for damage to equipment that falls off of personal or Coal Ridge Sporting Clay’-issued shooting carts or ATVs.
I have read, understood and agree to abide by all of the above rules of Coal Ridge Sporting Clays. COAL RIDGE SPORTING CLAYS GENERAL RELEASE & LIABILITY WAIVER AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT SINCE THE USE OF FIREARMS IS INHERENTLY DANGEROUS, ALL SHOOTERS AND OBSERVERS MUST ASSUME ALL RISK BY SIGNING AND ACKNOWLEDGING THIS GENERAL RELEASE & LIABILITY WAIVER AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT (this “Agreement”). I, the Undersigned, hereby acknowledge that I have voluntarily agreed to participate, as a shooter and/or observer, in the activity of sporting clays and related activities (collectively, the “Activity”) at Coal Ridge Sporting Clays (the “Premises”). As Lawful Consideration of being permitted to enter upon the Premises upon which the Activity is conducted and of being permitted to participate in or observe the Activity or otherwise use the equipment associated with the Activity, I, the Undersigned, on behalf of myself, my heirs, distributees, legal representatives, next of kin and assigns agree to the provisions set forth below: 1. I, the Undersigned, on behalf of myself, my heirs, distributees, legal representatives, next of kin and assigns, hereby RELEASE, WAIVE, AND DISCHARGE 4 Suns Ranch, LLC, the owner of the Premises, Coal Ridge Sporting Clays, LLC (“Coal Ridge”), the operator of the sporting clays course, and all of their affiliate organizations, entities, officers, directors, owners, members, shareholders, managers, employees, agents, representatives, heirs and/or assigns for all purposes (all of the foregoing parties are collectively referred to herein as “RELEASEES”), from all liability or damages, whether in contract, in tort or otherwise, on account of damage to the property of or injury to the person or death of the undersigned arising out of or related to the Undersigned’s participation in the Activity, to include, but not limited to, bodily and personal injury claims, damages, losses, harms, medical expenses, hospital expenses, and/or any other damages, expenses or claims, due to any cause whatsoever, EVEN IF ARISING, IN WHOLE OR IN PART, FROM OR RELATED TO ANY RELEASEE’S WILLFUL, RECKLESS, GROSSLY NEGLIGENT AND/OR NEGLIGENT ACTS OR OMISSIONS. 2. The Undersigned COVENANTS NOT TO SUE OR MAKE A CLAIM AGAINST Releasees for any damages to the property of or personal injury or death of the Undersigned arising out of or related to the Undersigned’s participation in the Activity, to include, but not limited to, bodily and personal injury claims, damages, losses, harms, medical expenses, hospital expenses, and/or any other damages, expenses or claims, due to any cause whatsoever, EVEN IF ARISING, IN WHOLE OR IN PART, FROM OR RELATED TO ANY RELEASEE’S WILLFUL, RECKLESS, GROSSLY NEGLIGENT AND/OR NEGLIGENT ACTS OR OMISSIONS. 3. The Undersigned shall and does hereby agree to INDEMNIFY, DEFEND (WITH COUNSEL APPROVED BY RELEASEES) AND SAVE AND HOLD HARMLESS the RELEASEES and each of them from any loss, liability, damage, or cost (including attorneys’ fees) that RELEASEES may incur due to the presence of or any act of the Undersigned while the Undersigned participates in the Activity EVEN IF ARISING IN PART FROM OR RELATED TO ANY RELEASEE’S WILLFUL, RECKLESS, GROSSLY NEGLIGENT AND/OR NEGLIGENT ACTS OR OMISSIONS. 4. The Undersigned expressly agrees that this Agreement is intended to be as broad as is permitted by the laws of the State of West Virginia. The Undersigned further agrees and consents that any action brought hereunder or related to this Agreement shall be brought and maintained in the Circuit Court of Hancock County, West Virginia. The Undersigned further agrees that if any provision(s)of this Agreement is held to be invalid, nevertheless, the balance hereof shall continue in full force and effect. 5. The Undersigned warrants that the following statements are true and correct and understands that RELEASEES have relied on them in accepting this Agreement and in giving the Undersigned permission to participate in the Activity: 5.1 No oral representations, statements or inducements have been made by RELEASEES with respect to the Activity. 5.2 The Undersigned affirms, under penalty of law and perjury, that he/she can legally possess and/or rent a firearm and that he/she has no criminal or mental background that restricts the Undersigned from such possession and/or use. 5.3 The Undersigned has watched the safety presentation of Coal Ridge and fully understands the contents thereof, including the rules and directives the course. If the Undersigned does not understand a rule or directive or feels there is a safety risk to Undersigned or others, the Undersigned agrees to notify an employee of Coal Ridge immediately. 5.4 I am familiar with and understand the safe operation of firearms. I will seek instruction from an employee of Coal Ridge before handling any firearm that I am not familiar with. 5.5 The Undersigned is not under the influence of any alcohol, controlled substances, or other medications that might impair judgment prior to, and during, the participation in the Activity. 5.6 The Undersigned is fully aware of the risks and hazards inherent in participating in the Activity and understand that the risk and hazards being assumed by the Undersigned may increase during the time the Undersigned is participating in the Activity. 5.7 THE UNDERSIGNED IS AWARE THAT THE PARTICIPATION IN OR THE OBSERVATION OF THE ACTIVITY OF SPORTING CLAYS, WITH LOADED FIREARMS AND RELATED ACTIVITIES IS A HAZARDOUS ACTIVITY. THE UNDERSIGNED DOES VOLUNTARILY PARTICIPATE IN OR OBSERVE THESE ACTIVITIES WITH THE KNOWLEDGE AND APPRECIATION OF THE DANGERS OF POTENTIAL BODILY HARM, INCLUDING SERIOUS BODILY INJURY AND/OR DEATH. THE UNDERSIGNED HEREBY AGREES TO ASSUME ANY AND ALL RISKS FOR PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH. 5.8 The Undersigned gives consent to whatever emergency medical care might be necessary, provided or available on the Premises, but acknowledges and understands that no such care may be available on the Premises or at the time and location of the Undersigned’s participation in such Activity. The Undersigned further agrees to conform and comply with all the rules and regulations promulgated for the Activity at the Premises. 5.9 THE UNDERSIGNED AGREES THAT ANY UNSAFE ACT, INCLUDING THE USE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES WHILE INVOLVED IN THE ACTIVITY, WILL BE CAUSE FOR IMMEDIATE EXPULSION FROM THE COURSE, ACTIVITY, AND/OR PREMISES. 5.10 THE UNDERSIGNED HAS HAD SUFFICIENT TIME TO READ THIS ENTIRE AGREEMENT, AND TO CONSULT WITH LEGAL COUNSEL PRIOR TO SIGNING, IF THE UNDERSIGNED SO CHOOSES. THE UNDERSIGNED HAS CAREFULLY READ AND FULLY UNDERSTANDS THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT, INCLUDING, SPECIFICALLY, THE RELEASE, COVENANT NOT TO SUE AND INDEMNIFICATION CONTAINED IN SECTIONS 1, 2 AND 3 HEREIN, AND VOLUNTARILY SIGNS THIS AGREEMENT. 5.11 THE UNDERSIGNED UNDERSTANDS THAT THE UNDERSIGNED HAS GIVEN UP SUBSTANTIAL RIGHTS BY SIGNING THIS AGREEMENT, AND HAS SIGNED IT FREELY AND VOLUNTARILY WITHOUT INDUCEMENT, ASSURANCE OR GUARANTEE. THE UNDERSIGNED INTENDS THE RELEASES, WAIVERS AND INDEMNIFICATIONS CONTAINED HEREIN TO BE CONTINUING AND UNCONDITIONAL.

Alcohol Policy No alcoholic beverages or any drug, legal or illegal, are allowed prior or during shooting, with the exception of prescription medicine, which does not impair a shooters ability to perform safely. No one will be allowed to participate in any shooting activity if deemed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Alcohol may not be in any area where shooting activities are taking place. All guest guns, gear, coolers, shooting carts or ATVs may be subject to inspections. The use of alcohol and the subsequent use or handling of firearms is strictly prohibited at all times anywhere on Coal Ridge property. Consumption of alcohol is permitted on Coal Ridge property only when the following conditions are met: - All shooting must be completed before the consumption of alcohol is allowed.
- Consumption of alcohol shall be limited to the Lodge; no alcoholic beverages are permitted anywhere along the sporting clay course.
- In addition to Coal Ridge Sporting Clays rules, all guests must comply with any federal, state, or local laws and regulations which may be pertinent.
- Consumption of alcohol in, from, or near any parked motor vehicle or parking lot is strictly forbidden.
