Social media can be a fun and useful tool for communicating with barn mates, friends, family, coaches, and the equestrian community. However, social media can also be harmful if used irresponsibly. Every photo, video, message, comment, or post shared online becomes part of a permanent digital footprint. What is shared online—by you or others—can impact a rider’s reputation during showing, team selection, college acceptance, employment opportunities, awards, and other important areas of life. A negative social media presence can also reflect poorly on the sport of horseback riding and on Georgetown Riding Academy. By signing this agreement, the rider and parent/guardian acknowledge and agree to the following: RIDER SOCIAL MEDIA EXPECTATIONSThe rider understands and agrees that they represent Georgetown Riding Academy, their sport, their family, and their community at all times—both online and in person. The rider agrees to: - Take responsibility for their online presence, including any posts, photos, videos, or recordings posted by themselves or others in which they appear.
- Refrain from using foul, inappropriate, or offensive language.
- Never post, message, or share content that is degrading, bullying, harassing, or disrespectful toward anyone.
- Post only positive and respectful content regarding Georgetown Riding Academy, instructors, parents, barn mates, competitors, officials, and others.
- Use social media to promote positive values, horsemanship, sportsmanship, and community involvement.
- Pause and consider, “Is this the version of myself I want others to see?” before posting.
- Avoid responding to or engaging in online negativity or gossip.
- Report concerning or inappropriate online behavior involving barn mates to a parent, instructor, or coach.
- Understand that gossip and negative commentary—whether true or not—can spread quickly and may be seen by judges, other riders, parents, trainers, and officials.
