Device Acceptable Use PolicyAnswers Academy recognizes that technology can have a place in school to give students and teachers greater opportunities to learn, engage, communicate, and develop skills that will prepare them for work and life. However, we take computer safety very seriously and this acceptable use policy outlines the guidelines and behaviors that users are expected to follow when using technology. Administration reserves the right to read, monitor, and retain any information on these devices. All technologies provided by Answers Academy are intended for educational purposes. All users are expected to use good judgement and to follow the specifics of this document as well as the spirit of it or disciplinary action may occur. - Computer use and internet access requires the direct supervision of a faculty or staff member at all times.
- Students should only be working on the project given by the teacher and not using any other programs.
- Answers Academy's Google accounts are only to be used for school projects - chats/video chats from these accounts are not permitted unless under the direction of the teacher.
- Always ask prior to installing software, downloading files, games, programs or other electronic media. Please remember that opening an attachment from email is considered downloading a file.
- Using and/or viewing of streaming video require prior approval of a staff or faculty member.
- Users are expected to treat devices with extreme care and caution. Refrain from eating or drinking near devices.
- Do not write on the computers or put stickers on them.
- Users should report any loss, damage, or malfunction to their teacher.
- Users may be financially accountable for any damage resulting from negligence or misuse.
- Use of the device or the Internet to hurt, harass, attack or harm other people or their work will not be tolerated (even if it is unintentional).
- Refrain from viewing, sending, or displaying obscene, profane, lewd, vulgar, rude, disrespectful, threatening, or inflammatory language, messages, or pictures.
- Refrain from instant messaging, chatting, or social networking.
- Protect your password and account – refrain from sharing your password and personal information with another person. (You are responsible for anything that happens under your account.)
- Never login to someone else’s account.
- How you represent yourself online is an extension of yourself. Do not misrepresent yourself by using someone else’s identity.
- If you run across inappropriate material that makes you feel uncomfortable, or is not respectful, inform your teacher.
- When using the device, be sure the content you are accessing is in the spirit of Philippians 4:8: “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable – if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
- Do not try to get around technological protection measures.
- Observe all copyright laws. Be aware that pictures, videos, songs, and audio clips may also be protected under copyright laws. Verify you have permission to use the images, videos, songs, or other clips.
- Users should never plagiarize content, words, or images (or use as their own, without citing the original creator). Be aware that it is a violation of copyright law to copy and paste other’s thoughts. Research conducted via the Internet should be appropriately cited, giving credit to the original author.
This is not intended to be an exhaustive list. Users should use their own good judgement when using school technologies. Violations of this Acceptable Use Policy may have disciplinary repercussions, including: - Losing the opportunity to take part in a project
- Computer privileges being revoked
- Notification to parents in most cases
- Detention or suspension from school
- Legal action and/or prosecution
