Introduction

Welcome to Bike Lake Tahoe by Clearly Tahoe. We are committed to providing safe, scenic, and unforgettable biking experiences across the Lake Tahoe region. These rental policies outline important guidelines for the safe use of our fleet, which includes traditional bicycles, electric cruiser bikes, and pedal-assist downhill mountain bikes (e-MTBs). Please read all policies carefully before making a reservation or riding.

For the purpose of defining details within these policies; participants who will be operating the bicycles will be referred to as “riders” and non-pedaling participants will be referred to as “passengers”.


Rider Eligibility & Age Requirements

• All participating riders must be 6 years of age or older.

• Riders must be 12 years or older to operate pedal-assist electric bikes (Turbo Levo, Como and Haul ST/LT).

• Participants under 16 must be accompanied and actively supervised by an adult (18+).

• Guests under 18 years of age must have a parent or legal guardian complete and sign a liability waiver.

• All riders must be physically capable of riding safely and understand basic road rules.

• Children under the age of 12 may only ride as a passenger on electric bikes with an adult (18+).

• Adults riding with passengers must be experienced riders. Beginners will not be permitted to transport passengers.

• Beginners will not be permitted as “riders” on any cycling activity.

• Only experienced riders will be permitted on electric bikes. Guests may be required to pass a ride-test at check-in. Failure to pass a ride-test may result in cancellation of activity.

Passenger Limitations & Age Requirements

• All guests must be 4 years of age or older to participate in recreational activity. This includes passenger children.

• Children under the age of 8 must be restrained in a proper child-seat.

• Riders are only permitted to ride on seats and must comply with age and weight restrictions of the seat. Riders with passengers must not have a combined weight that exceeds limitations of the bike.

Safety & Rules of the Road

• Riders must follow all traffic laws and trail etiquette guidelines of California and Nevada.

• Ride on the right-hand side of paths and roads unless posted otherwise.

• Obey all signage, including speed limits and trail closures.

• Yield to pedestrians and slower cyclists.

• Helmets are mandatory for all riders and passengers. Closed-toe shoes are required for all participants.

• For e-MTBs, additional protective gear is recommended, including gloves and pads.

• Do not use phones, handheld cameras, noise cancelling headphones or any distracting device while operating bikes.

• No towing or use of ropes from the bikes. This includes running or walking dogs on leash while riding.

Reservation & Check-In

• Rentals must be reserved in advance or are subject to availability.

• The minimum rental duration is 1 hour. All bikes must be returned by 6:00 PM on the day of rental.

Guests are responsible for choosing a bike that fits their height and weight. Staff assistance may be available upon request.

• All rentals require a valid photo ID and credit card for check-in.

• Pedal assist bikes will require a credit card hold for incidentals at the time of check-in. Credit card holds can be up to $2,500.00 per bike and will be released within 72 hours pending condition of the equipment upon return. Please reference bike-specific listing for required holds and estimated cost for damages.

Height & Weight Guidelines

• Riders must fit within manufacturer guidelines for safety and performance. Reference chart below:

Turbo Levo SL HT24 Comp Alloy (Pedal-Assist e-MTB):

 - SL: 4’0"–4'11" | Max weight: 220 lbs

Turbo Levo Full Suspension Comp Alloy (Pedal-Assist e-MTB):

 - S1: 4’11"–5'3" | Max weight: 250 lbs

 - S2: 5'2"–5'5" | Max weight: 250 lbs

 - S3: 5'6"–5'9" | Max weight: 265 lbs

 - S4: 5'10"–6'1" | Max weight: 275 lbs

 - S5: 6'2"–6'5" | Max weight: 285 lbs

Specialized Haul ST (Pedal-Assist e-Bike with passenger seat):

- Rider 4'5"–6'4" | Max bike weight capacity (with passengers): 340 lbs

- Passenger Seat: Recommended for participants 8–12 years old | Max passenger seat weight: 120 lbs

Specialized Haul LT (Pedal-Assist e-Bike with 1-2 passenger child seat):

- Rider: 4'5"–6'4" | Max bike weight capacity (with passengers): 350 lbs

- Child Passenger: Recommended for children 4–7 years old | Max passenger seat weight: 150 lbs

Transportation Restrictions

• Bikes may only be transported using approved racks or vehicles designed for bicycle transport. Tailgate pads will be required for truck transport. Clearly Tahoe staff members reserve the right to refuse transport under the suspicion that it may not be suitable.

• Customer is responsible for any damage that may occur during transport.

• Do not disassemble bikes or remove batteries during transport.

Use Restrictions

• Riding is only allowed in permitted zones within the Tahoe region. Please consult staff or local trail maps for recommendations.

Basic Maintenance & Rider Responsibility

• Riders are expected to test and inspect bike prior to leaving the courtyard to ensure it is in good working order. Departure from the courtyard serves as automatic acceptance of the bikes condition.

• Riders are expected to monitor basic bike condition during use.

• Guests must understand and agree to roadside assistance terms and maintenance policy prior to participation in rental activity.

• Tube replacement will result in a $10.00 replacement fee per tube.

• Replacement chains will $10.00. Fee may be waived upon inspection of broken chain. 

• Calls for assistance or bike retrieval outside of our roadside assistance region will result in a $100.00 retrieval fee per bike + $5.00 per mile in addition to any incidentals or damage to the bike. Rental time will end when the bike is returned to our shop by customer or staff member.

• Maintenance kit may be available free of charge. Participant will be responsible for any lost, damaged or used supplies.

• Guests are no permitted to repair electrical components or brakes.

Incidentals, Damage & Late Returns

• Riders are responsible for returning bikes in the condition issued.

• Charges may apply for damaged parts, lost accessories, or excessive cleaning.

• Bikes returned after 6:00 PM may incur late return fees.

• Lost or stolen bikes are subject to full replacement cost.

Guest is responsible for any cost of damages, or theft that may result during their rental time weather regardless of if they are at fault.

• Credit card holds will be released within 72 hours of return after incidentals and fees have been assessed. Damage or replacement cost that exceed the hold will be charged to the card on file.

Acknowledgment & Agreement

By signing the rental agreement, the primary renter acknowledges and agrees to adhere to all company policies, both for themselves and on behalf of all participants included in the rental. Each participant confirms their understanding and acceptance of these policies.

Failure to comply with any of the stated policies may result in the immediate termination of rental privileges without refund.
