Please understand that our rentals are not intended to be diving or swimming platforms and your safety while on the water is your responsibility. We understand that at some point you may be in the water for whatever reason. Please be safe at all times by being mindful of the depth of water, conditions, and other watercraft. You are also required to have a whistle with you. Make sure to have both whistle and PFD on you at all times. Leashes are optional and available from our staff. Leashes are secured to your ankle and the paddleboard to insure the paddleboard remains in close proximity to you at all times. DAMAGE / LOSS Any damage or loss of the equipment will be the sole responsibility of the renting party. Do not allow paddleboards to crash on rocks or rub against barnacles along the shoreline. Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need experience to try a paddleboard (SUP)? No prior experience is necessary to enjoy a day out SUP-ing in Newport Harbor. Almost everyone who rents from us are first timers or novices. We love catering to families and beginners, and our paddle boards are perfect for them because they are quite stable. However, you should be physically fit enough to be able to get to a standing position from your hands and knees. Participants should also not have any balance issues. You may also sit or kneel on the board and use it similar to a kayak. We offer kayak paddles as well. So just what is a paddleboard? A paddle board, otherwise known as a SUP or Stand-Up Paddleboard, is configured similarly to a surfboard, but is usually longer, thicker, and much more stable than a traditional surfboard. The operator of a paddle board stands upright on the board and propels it through the water by using a long paddle. How old do I have to be to rent a paddle board? 18 years and older. All renters are required to sign a rental agreement and are responsible for any damage or loss to the equipment. What is the weight limit? Our larger boards can support people up to approximately 250 lbs. What kind of shape do I need to be in? A lot depends on the weather, and how far you would like to go. This activity can be as strenuous, or as leisurely as you make it. If the wind is blowing, then you will have to work harder to make the paddle board go where you want it to. We recommend paddling into the wind at the start of your adventure, so the return trip is easier. Your upright body provides a fair amount of resistance to the force of the wind causing you to get a decent workout if you have to travel any appreciable distance. Kneeling and sitting on the board can reduce the wind resistance if you find yourself struggling. You will want to be strong enough to pull yourself back up on to the paddle board if you fall off. This is not difficult, but does require a certain level of fitness. Most people find Stand Up Paddleboarding to be fairly easy, and only a moderate workout. What clothing should I wear? Wear whatever will make you the most comfortable while paddle boarding, given the weather conditions of the day. SUP-ing is a water sport and so you will want to wear clothing that you don't mind getting wet in the event that you fall into the water. Most guests come wearing swimwear, or board shorts and have water compatible shoes or go barefoot. A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen will be appreciated if the sun is out. Do not forget to apply sunscreen. Bring a spare set of clothes to change into afterwards, in case you are wet. Is parking available? All parking on Balboa Island is public and non-metered. Parking on Marine Avenue in the 200 and 300 blocks is limited to 2 hours. Other streets do not have time limits but may have street sweeping so pay attention to the signs when you park. If the street sweeper has already gone by, you are good to park there even if the time is earlier than posted on the signs. Once they have passed, they do not ticket. What if I want to return my board early? No problem, you are not obligated to keep it for the entire time of your rental. If you wish to stop earlier, you may return it anytime. We do not offer any refunds for returning the boards earlier.
