Break Bar NYC Employee Hand Book (IE check list)

Employee Hand Book (IE check list)

This is a quick and easy reference for everyone to outline the basic requirements of employment at the Break Bar. There is no need for a long verbose hand book here. This will just be a list of things required of ALL employees.

  1. ARRIVE ON TIME. This is the most important rule. This is a customer service based job. Being even 5 minutes late will have consequences. This is a big city with a lot of moving parts. There will be traffic and public transportation delays more often than not. This needs to be accounted for when planning your trip in to work.
  2. CONFIRM the schedule each week before Friday at 5pm via SLING ONLY. This will be published to everyone every week before THURSDAY AT NOON via SLING ONLY.
  3. If you want to find someone to cover your shift, it is YOUR responsibility to find your replacement. Before this is finalized text the MANAGER NUMBER (347-694-8337) AND the other bartender on a group chat. Choose someone you trust because at the end of the day you and only you are responsible for your shift.
  4. Vacations or days off must be APPROVED by GENERAL MANAGER (ONLY) in writing via SLING ONLY at least 14+ days in advance. It is advisable to get days off (ie vacations or trips) approved before booking them to ensure it is not denied by the GENERAL MANAGER. THIS WILL BE DONE IN ORDER OF REQUEST. IF ITS NOT AVAILABLE IT WILL BE DENIED (even if requested 14+ day in advance.)
  5. You will receive a max of 10 un-paid vacation days per year. This is the equivalent of two 5 day work weeks.
  6. Dress code : ALL STAFF - NO sweat pants, NO large logo shirts, cleanly groomed and presentable. Bartenders/Barbacks - Plain black shirt required.
  7. Before each shift put on the appropriate staff pin on your shirt. After each shift place it back in basement near manager desk in assigned place.

  8. Complete your checklist of duties for your shift FULLY.
  9. Make sure you are following work safety policies. You all have construction gloves, eye protection, and masks available at all times. You will need very thick soled shoes to cross the barrier of the throwing range.
  10. Comply will all local, state, and federal laws while at 458 9th Avenue, New York, NY 10018.
  11. Treat your colleagues, supervisors, and customers with respect. Any forms of harassment or aggression will not be tolerated. Customer feedback is received via reviews. Colleague feedback is received via speaking to a manager. There is NEVER a valid reason to be disrespectful to a fellow team member or customer. You can always speak to a manager with issues with a fellow team member if you are unable to speak directly to your teammate. If the issue is with the general manager you can always speak to Tom (owner) at 347-973-2569 with an issue with the GM ONLY.
  12. Employees will receive a 50% discount on all drinks and food. This also extends to friends and family (not customers) that visit you in the bar whether you are working or not. There is no limit to this except for alcohol consumption while you are working. There will not be any comped tabs for employees. EVERYTHING needs to go on a tab through the POS system. Have a bartender or manager add this to a tab in the POS system for you. After that, a manager will apply any discounts. You and you alone are responsible for making sure this happens. Tab name must be First Name, Last Name, Employee. Example - Tom Daly Employee. Orders must be off the menu. No combining different menu options.
  13. There is zero tolerance for consuming alcohol during your shift. If a customer wants to buy you a shot or you'd like to consume alcohol for any reason it needs to be approved by a manager and then rung up on the employee's tab.
  14. EVERYTHING needs to go on a tab through the POS system...EVERYTHING. It needs to be entered AT THE TIME ITS MADE. This is very important!! There are no warnings for this one. One strike will result in immediate termination.
  15. If you'd like to gift a customer a shot on the house you can do that. HOWEVER, you will receive a code that is custom and unique to you. We will be monitoring this code daily.

  16. Credit Card tips received in the bar are paid via payroll weekly. 85% to bartenders and 15% to Aux position. This is distributed proportionately based on hours worked within that work day.
  17. Event tips are paid via payroll weekly. 85% to bartenders and 15% to Aux position. This is distributed equally based on employees assigned to the event.
  18. Cash tips are directly paid to employees by customers. "Tip outs" are handled between staff members. Break Bar does not govern how these tips are shared.
  19. Due to tips being paid proportionately by hours worked, employees must clock out when not working or taking breaks. This is out of respect for employers as well as your fellow co-workers who are sharing your tips based on hours worked.
  20. Bartender's are responsible for verifying their cash drawer at the beginning of each shift with manager present.
  21. Bartenders are responsible for their cash drawers during their shift. Each bartender will have their own drawer during their shift. ONLY your pin will will access that drawer so you, AND YOU ALONE, will be responsible for those cash transactions. Be careful of sharing your pin with colleagues and not signing out of a POS reader in between transactions. YOU AND YOU ALONE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR DRAWER.
  22. In the situation that two bar tenders are assigned to a single drawer then you will share the responsibility equally. If you don't feel comfortable working with an individual please tell a manager BEFORE your shift and we will re-arrange that shift.
  23. The cash drawer need to match EXACTLY. Any discrepancies can either be rectified and explained by the bartender OR receive a write-up/termination. REMEBER YOU AND YOU ALONE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR CASH DRAWER.  At the end of your shift the MANAGER will count the cash with the bartender PRESENT.
  24. Change is removed from each sale by using your house account write off. If this is not done in error you need to tell a manager immediately so they can fix it. Change remainders at the end of your shift will result in a write up or you having to rectify the difference.
  25. We respectfully ask for at least a 1 week quitting notice.

Violating these basic rules will result in 1 (one) write up warning. A second violation of these basic rules will result in termination. These will be at the managements team's discretion.

I have received and read the above employee requirements and understand the consequence of their violation. Initial below.
