Basic Gun Safety Rules

1. Always keep gun pointed in the SAFEST direction

2. Always keep your finger off the trigger until the decision has been made to fire.

3. Always keep your gun unloaded until ready to use

Safe gun storage units include locked gun safes, locked gun cases, and locked gun cabinets.

Safe gun storage devices include trigger locks, cable locks and breech locks.

Always secure your firearms from unauthorized persons.

REMEMBER: hiding a gun is not properly securing a gun.

Accessible to a child

A person commits an offense if a child gains access to a readily dischargeable firearm and the person with criminal negligence:

Failed to secure the firearm; or left the firearm in a place to which the person knew or should have known the child would gain access.

PC 46.13(b)(e) making a firearm

Accessible to a child

- an offense under this section is a Class C misdemeanor except for subsection (e)

- an offense under this section is a Class A misdemeanor if the child discharges the firearm and cause a death or serious bodily injury to himself or another person.
