Any activity related to climbing (routes, bouldering, physical training, and related equipment) in a facility operated by Monolithe Escalade (“we”) involves considerable risks. Although we have implemented reasonable measures, including safety instructions and qualified staff, certain risks remain unavoidable and are an essential part of the activity. These may result in loss or damage to property, accidental injuries, illness, or, in extreme cases, permanent trauma or death. Our intention is not to discourage you, but to clearly inform you of the inherent risks so that you may participate with full awareness.
ACKNOWLEDGMENT AND ACCEPTANCE OF RISKS
I understand and accept that indoor climbing and physical training involve inherent risks, the description below being partial and non-exhaustive: - Slips, trips, falls, or impacts while using the facilities, equipment, walls, mats, floors, training areas, restrooms, or stairs.
- Situations related to climbing at height (ascending, descending, passing, unexpected loss of control, belay errors), as well as risks caused by the presence, movement, or falls of other individuals.
- Improper use or malfunction of equipment or facilities.
- Personal limitations and physiological factors (health, strength, coordination, balance, fatigue, chills, dizziness, or others) that may compromise safety and increase the risk of accident.
- Scrapes, abrasions, or injuries caused by contact with equipment, structures, ropes, or accidental entanglement.
- Wear or premature deterioration of clothing, shoes, or personal belongings caused by equipment, surfaces, holds, ropes, quickdraws, and anchors.
- Serious physical conditions, including neurological or neurodegenerative consequences, that may result from a fall or significant impact.
I acknowledge that these risks may lead to a range of consequences, from minor injuries (scratches, cuts, bruises) to severe injuries (sprains, fractures, head, neck, or spinal trauma, neurological damage), and, in extreme cases, paralysis or death. As a result, I commit to playing an active role in managing these risks by adopting a preventive attitude toward myself and others. Health and Physical Condition
I certify that I am in good physical condition and have no personal health issues preventing me from participating in the activities at Monolithe Escalade. I agree to disclose any physical or mental condition that could affect my safety or that of others.
CLIMBING ACTIVITIES
(specific conditions according to type of practice) Bouldering
I assume full responsibility for my actions while bouldering. I acknowledge the specific risks associated with repeated falls and the absence of belay, and I accept that it is my responsibility to: - follow the initial training provided and apply the safety guidelines;
- use crash mats correctly and ensure they are clear before climbing;
- adopt a safe falling technique and remain attentive to the presence of other climbers;
- seek the assistance of a competent spotter when needed;
- respect designated zones and my own physical and technical limits.
Auto-Belays
I assume full responsibility for my actions when using an auto-belay device. I acknowledge that these devices allow me to climb without a partner, and I accept that it is my responsibility to: - follow the initial training and apply the usage procedures provided;
- check the device is working properly, especially the strap retraction;
- remain correctly attached at all times;
- stay under the anchor point and centered during the ascent.
Top Rope / Lead Climbing
I assume full responsibility when entrusting my belay to another person. I acknowledge that: - belay errors (incorrect checks, rope mishandling, etc.) may result in serious injury or death;
- accreditation does not guarantee absolute competence or responsibility of its holder;
- only individuals accredited by Monolithe Escalade for the relevant climbing type are authorized to belay;
- any belay performed without valid accreditation is strictly prohibited and may result in immediate expulsion without refund;
- I must always be properly tied in and belayed before leaving the ground, and use a spotter at the start of a climb or when the situation requires it;
- when lead climbing, I must clip quickdraws safely without skipping any, manage rope slack appropriately, and avoid dangerous falls.
HELMET USE
I understand that wearing a climbing helmet may reduce the risk of head injury and that I am personally responsible for my decision to wear one or not. It is my responsibility to provide my own helmet.
TEACHING AND SUPERVISION
I acknowledge that when accompanying a non-accredited climber, I assume full responsibility for their safety and maneuvers. This includes properly adjusting their harness, tying their figure-eight knot, and supervising their use of auto-belay devices. I understand that failure to comply with these obligations may, at the discretion of Monolithe Escalade, result in my immediate expulsion without refund, and that such responsibility may only be assumed by a person aged 18 or older. As a non-accredited climber, I expressly acknowledge that I am not authorized to install or adjust my own harness, tie the figure-eight knot, or belay another participant. As an accredited climber, I understand and accept that only individuals officially mandated by Monolithe Escalade, within the context of an official course, are authorized to provide safety instructions. No other participant or companion is permitted to teach or supervise safety maneuvers, including but not limited to tying the figure-eight knot, lead climbing techniques, and belay techniques. I declare that I have read all rules applicable to non-accredited climbers and commit to respecting them in full.
COMMITMENT TO RESPECT RULES AND REGULATIONS
I acknowledge having read and commit to respecting all the rules and regulations of Monolithe Escalade, applicable to all offered activities (bouldering, auto-belay use, and rope climbing). These rules are posted inside our facilities, and a printed copy is available upon request. Monolithe Escalade and its representatives reserve the right to: - deny access or expel without refund any person whose behavior is dangerous to indoor climbing safety, or who does not comply with Monolithe Escalade’s rules and regulations;
- deny or revoke accreditation to any climber who fails the corresponding test;
- suspend or revoke the accreditation of any accredited individual who fails to comply with the rules and regulations or compromises rope climbing safety.
