I. Rules of the SAC- Disorderly behavior of any kind, including excessively loud noise, running in the building, play fight or any other actions that may cause a disruption to the peace and order of the SAC.
- Do not put hands or feet on the walls.
- Vandalizing or destroying materials, property including equipment, furniture, landscaping, walls, or any other aspect of the SAC.
- Do not remove materials, equipment, or property from the building.
- Harassment of SAC members, guest, or staff verbally or physically. This includes verbal abuse, use of profanity or any other abusive language, intimidation, staring, following a person within the facility, sexual harassment, or harassment on the account of race, religion, ethnic background, gender, or sexual orientation.
- Indecent exposure, voyeurism, or other lewd and lascivious acts.
- Smoking or use of tobacco products including any type of electronic cigarette, hookah, etc.
- Bringing firearms or any other deadly weapons into the SAC.
- Possession, consumption or being under the influence of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs.
- Use of bikes, skateboards, in-line skates, roller skates or scooters within the facility.
- Failure to wear a shirt or shirts exposing the chest areas are prohibited. Staff at the SAC has the right to deny access or ask patrons not adhering to the dress code to change or leave.
- Selling products or services, soliciting for personal gain.
- Personal visitors or guests who are not member of SAC will not be allowed access without authorization from the SAC Director.
- Food and Beverages are only allowed in designated areas in the SAC (never allowed by computers or technology).
Minor ViolationsMinor violations to the rules of the SAC will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Students will meet with staff to discuss punishment and repercussions. No Tolerance PolicyThere is no tolerance for Drugs, Alcohol, Weapons, Sexual Activity, Theft, Bullying and Violence. You will be immediately dismissed from the Student ACES Center if found in violation of the No Tolerance Policy. DismissalIf dismissal from the Student ACES Center is warranted, parents/ guardians of the student will receive a phone call, student will turn in his/her ID card and parent’s will receive a letter outlining reasons for dismissal, and paste the body of your waiver here. II. Procedures and conditions under which student bags may be searched Scope This policy applies to all students enrolled in the afterschool program, as well as staff members responsible for supervising and conducting searches. Definitions Search: The act of examining a student's bag to find any items that are prohibited or pose a threat to the safety and security of the school environment. Prohibited Items: Items that are not allowed in the school or afterschool program, including but not limited to weapons, drugs, alcohol, stolen property, and any other items deemed dangerous or disruptive. Authority to Search · Searches may be conducted by SAC staff, including program coordinators, supervisors, and security personnel. · Searches will only be conducted if there is reasonable suspicion that a student possesses prohibited items. · On field trips students must bring clear bags and all bags will be searched prior to leaving for the field trip.
Reasonable Suspicion Reasonable suspicion is based on specific, objective, and articulated facts that a student may have prohibited items in their possession. Factors that may contribute to reasonable suspicion include: · Reports from credible sources · Observable behavior indicating potential possession of prohibited items · Other relevant information that leads staff to believe a search is necessary Procedure for Conducting Searches Notification: Before conducting a search, the student will be informed of the reason for the search and given an opportunity to voluntarily hand over the item(s) in question. Reasons will be documented for reporting. Presence of a Witness: Another staff member must be present during the search to serve as a witness and ensure that the search is conducted appropriately and respectfully. Conducting the Search: The search should be conducted in a private area, away from other students, to maintain the student's dignity and privacy. Minimizing Intrusiveness: The search should be limited to the student's bag and any other belongings that could reasonably contain the item(s) in question. Physical searches of the student are not permitted. Documentation: The details of the search, including the reason, process, and outcome, must be documented immediately after the search. Handling Found Items Prohibited Items: If prohibited items are found, they will be confiscated, and appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken in accordance with the Student ACES Centers disciplinary policy. Illegal Items: If illegal items are found, law enforcement will be notified immediately. Return of Items: Non-prohibited items found during the search will be returned to the student. Parental Notification Parents or guardians will be informed of the search and its outcome as soon as possible. In cases where illegal items are found and law enforcement is involved, parents will be notified immediately. Rights and Responsibilities Students: Students have the right to privacy and to be treated with respect and dignity. They are responsible for adhering to Student ACES Center rules and regulations regarding prohibited items. Staff: Staff members are responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the afterschool program environment and conducting searches in a fair, respectful, and non-discriminatory manner. Training Staff members authorized to conduct searches will receive training on the legal and ethical aspects of conducting searches, including respecting students' rights and maintaining professionalism. Review and Revision This policy will be reviewed annually and revised as necessary to ensure it remains effective and up to date with current legal standards and best practices. |
