RAY SCUBA DIVING OPEN WATER STUDENT LEARNING AGREEMENT

Welcome to your training program at Ray Scuba Diving!

Diver training courses are meant to be fun, but like any form of learning, you will need to invest time and effort in reading, practicing, and preparing. This Learning Agreement is between you, the student, and Ray Scuba Diving’s instructional staff. It outlines our mutual responsibilities and the terms of your course. Please read it carefully and ask your instructor if you have any questions.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a student, you agree to:

  • Read and agree to Course Liability Release(s), Express Assumption of Risk(s), and any other waivers required by the agency or course standards.
  • Accurately complete the Medical Questionnaire and obtain physician approval if necessary.
  • Watch the course video (if required).
  • Read all course materials and complete exercises in each section.
  • Fully complete and submit all Knowledge Reviews prior to your classroom session.
  • Ask questions about any materials you do not understand.
  • Follow all course procedures and instructions from Ray Scuba Diving staff.
  • Arrive on time for every session and be prepared.
  • Maintain an active DAN (Divers Alert Network) membership. Membership is free during class with registration.
  • Provide and maintain a personal training log book.
  • Complete the entire course—including eLearning, confined water, and open water dives—within six (6) months of your course start date.
  • Supply proof of equipment servicing if using your own life-support gear (see Equipment Policy).

INSTRUCTOR / STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Your instructor(s) and supporting staff agree to:

  • Begin your course on time and fully prepared.
  • Establish a safe, positive, and professional learning environment.
  • Clearly explain all required skills and course expectations.
  • Offer additional assistance when needed and accommodate reasonable learning challenges.
  • Provide feedback on your progress and readiness.

If you complete all course work on time and follow instructions, Ray Scuba Diving will support your training to the best of our ability. If additional time is required to meet course objectives, extra sessions will be scheduled (see Fees section). These may incur additional costs.

GENERAL TERMS & CONDITIONS:

  • Your non-refundable deposit reserves your space in the course and applies only to the session for which you originally enrolled.
  • All courses are non-refundable and non-transferrable once enrolled.
  • If your course is not completed within six months, it will be considered expired ("timed out"). You will be required to re-enroll at current pricing and repeat all course components (eLearning, classroom, confined water, and open water dives).
  • Any remaining balance must be paid in full before your first class session.
  • Students must own their own Mask, Fins, Snorkel, and Wetsuit.
  • Rental gear is available at special rates for students in good standing.
  • Ray Scuba Diving has a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for substance use or disruptive behavior. Students suspected to be under the influence or behaving inappropriately will be removed and charged a $150 rescheduling fee.
  • Classes are limited to 8 students and follow a structured schedule. Students who fall behind may need to transfer to private instruction.
  • Table divers must complete all table-related eLearning even if marked optional.
  • Additional instructor time due to unpreparedness will be billed at $80/hour.
  • Training schedules may be disrupted by weather, illness, or other factors beyond our control. Ray Scuba Diving will make every effort to reschedule missed sessions in a timely manner.

EQUIPMENT POLICY

  • All gear used in training—whether rented or personally owned—must be in safe, working condition.
  • Personally owned life-support equipment (e.g., BCDs, regulators, dive computers, tanks) must have proof of annual service or inspection from a certified technician.
  • Gear not meeting safety or service standards will not be allowed in training. This policy is non-negotiable and in place for your safety and that of your fellow divers.

COURSE COMPLETION DISCLAIMER

Ray Scuba Diving is committed to helping each student succeed, but certification is not guaranteed. You must demonstrate required skills, knowledge, and water comfort to receive certification.

If you are unable to complete the course due to unpreparedness, missed sessions, inability to meet standards, or other factors, additional training time and associated costs may apply. These are not included in the original course price.

PROFICIENCY & READINESS POLICY

Instructors are required to evaluate each student’s comfort and skill level before progressing to confined or open water dives. If a student is not yet proficient in core skills, additional training will be required before continuing. These sessions will be billed separately and must be completed to continue with certification.

TRAVEL-BASED TRAINING POLICY(if applicable)

If your open water dives are scheduled as part of a destination trip or dive charter, any related travel costs—including lodging, transportation, or boat fees—are non-refundable once booked. If you are unable to participate due to readiness or other circumstances, you are still responsible for these costs.

CANCELLATION POLICY

  • A minimum of 48 hours' notice is required to reschedule or cancel confined or open water training. Failure to provide notice will result in a $75 rescheduling fee.
  • If you arrive unprepared (e.g., missing work or required documents), you will be sent home and must reschedule. The $75 fee will still apply.
  • Cancellation fees must be paid before any further training or certification processing.

By signing below, I certify that I have read, understand, and agree to the terms and conditions outlined above. I also acknowledge the cancellation policy, course deadlines, safety expectations, and additional fee structures.
