Summer Camp Counselor-In-Training (CIT) 2024

Code of Conduct Agreement

I understand that this is a volunteer position, and my role is to assist the Camp Staff with supervision and activities for children ages 6-12. CIT Standards are outlined below:

 

Must review the policies & procedures outlined for all Group Sports Camps/Clinics/Activities as applicable to this program.

 

Must review the Summer Recreation Camp Policies & Procedures and Rules 2024.

           

Hours will be coordinated and approved by the Camp Director (Anne Onsgard / 305-395-1464). CITs must Sign-In and Sign-Out for each shift. Sign in/out sheets will be located at the Park Office. Report to the Camp Director for daily assignment and before leaving for the day. The sign in/out sheets will also serve as logs for Community Service Records.

 

The following CIT rules are strictly enforced:

·      Use appropriate language: You are a role model to the campers, so remember eyes and ears are always on you.

·      Be respectful to all: you are an important support role in your group that helps both counselors and campers. Be kind, courteous, and helpful. It is important to work together!

·      Keep your hands to yourself: you need to set a good example, so you must stay away from any contact both in silliness and maliciousness. For everyone’s safety, please do not allow the campers to climb, hang, or sit on you.

·      Do not judge or tease others: we have a zero tolerance for bullying.

·      Have a positive attitude: Try to stay positive in all situations. No complaining about assignments. This is meant to be a great opportunity and experience. If you have a problem or concern, contact the Camp Director for assistance.

·      Participate: It is your job to make campers excited to be here and enjoy their day! The easiest way to do this is to get involved yourself.

·      Dress code: must wear uniform shirt (provided) and appropriate active attire i.e. board shorts, athletic shorts or leggings, and sneakers. No revealing shorts, crop tops, or swimwear; No distressed jeans or pants; No crocs, sandals, or slides. No clothing with inappropriate phrases or symbols. IDs or name tags will be provided.

·      No facial piercings.

·      No visiting with friends while on volunteer duty.

·      No cell phone use allowed when supervising the children; you may step away to make necessary phone calls.

·      Bring a refillable water bottle, sunscreen, and snacks (for yourself). Also, a packed lunch if you will be with camp during that time.

·      Failure to act responsibly, follow the CIT Code of Conduct, Facility Rules, and Policies as posted may result in expulsion from the CIT program. Parent/Guardian will be notified of any inappropriate behavior.

 

PLEASE BE AWARE: THESE RULES HAVE EVERYONES’ BEST INTEREST IN MIND. OUR GOAL IS TO PROVIDE THE BEST POSSIBLE EXPERIENCE FOR THE PARTICIPANTS AND STAFF! WHEN THESE BASIC CAMP RULES ARE FOLLOWED, EVERYONES’ SUMMER CAMP EXPEREINCE WILL BE SUCCESSFUL AND EXCITING!

Summer Recreation Camp Policies & Procedures and Rules 2024

PARENTS: PLEASE READ AND DISCUSS WITH YOUR CHILD BEFORE START OF CAMP.

 

Welcome campers and parents!

Please review the policies & procedures outlined for all Group Sports Camps/Clinics/Activities as applicable to this program.

 

Summer Camp Dates:           

June 3 – July 26 *No Camp July 1-5(8 weeks)

Monday - Friday

Ages 6 to 12 years (Summer Birthdays must fall within camp dates to be eligible)

           

  • Summer Camp Hours are 8:00am – 5:30pm. Parents must pick up their children by 5:30pm.
  • Morning check-in/drop off (8:00-9:00am) will be located at the Beach and afternoon pickup (4:30-5:30pm) will be at the one of the following areas: Community Center & Basketball Court (Tent), Beach/Playground area (Tent), or other assigned area. Refer to your assigned group schedule or report to the Park Office for camper’s location outside of the designated check-in/drop off/pick up times. Playground area is open to the public during our visits.
  • Children will be assigned to an appropriate age group for the week (up to 30 campers to 2 counselors). Daily attendance will be taken by the camp counselors. Parent/Guardian must sign in for check-in & check-out. Persons not known by staff will be required to show a photo I.D. at the time of pick up. (See Pick Up Authorization Form) 
  • Payment for camp fees will be collected at the Ron Levy Aquatic Center (Park Office) only. Counselors are NOT allowed to accept fees for any reason.
  • Please have your camper dress appropriately for camp including a T-shirt, shorts, and hat. Participants MUST wear sneakers (and socks) every day. One-piece bathing suits are preferredSandals and crocs are only permitted at the pool.
  • Campers must bring a refillable water bottle, lunch, drinks, snacks, sneakers, towel, and a swimsuit. Please label all your child’s items.
  • Campers must not touch or take another camper’s property or anyone’s possessions. Campers will be charged the cost for any intentional damage he/she inflicts upon any facility, equipment, transportation bus, or other Village owned property.
  • Campers should not bring valuables to camp such as jewelry, or any electronic devices such as cell phones, mp3 players, tablets, gaming devices, etc. We cannot be held responsible for loss or damage of personal property. Campers will be allowed access to phones in the Park Office. Parents can call to check in on children at (305) 853-1685
  • Please do not send your child to camp with money, except for (possible) field trips. Campers will not be allowed access to the vending machines. Additional waiver forms must be signed in the event of a field trip
  • Campers are expected to follow all safety regulations of the camp and follow the directives of the camp staff. Campers will only be allowed in the swimming pool when there is a lifeguard present, and a camp counselor accompanies them. Swim tests will be required before entering the pool regardless of past participation. Alternative activities will be coordinated for all non-swimmers. No running on pool deck or sidewalk areas of the Ron Levy Aquatic Center and Community Center. No horseplay (pushing, shoving, hitting) is allowed in the swimming pool or any other location the camp visits. The pool will be open to the public during our visit.
  • Campers may not have food or drinks inside the Community Center room (NO chewing gum allowed in camp)
  • Feel free to send your camper with a book or magazine to read during free times. Please do not send your child to camp with toys
  • Campers are encouraged to participate in all camp programs
  • Campers should report any injuries to camp staff.
  • Campers must obey all the rules and regulations of the camp and facilities. Failure to do so may result in dismissal from the program. Parents will be notified of inappropriate behavior.

Group Sports Camps/Clinics/Activities – Policies & Procedures

PARENTS: PLEASE READ AND DISCUSS WITH YOUR CHILD BEFORE START OF CAMPS/CLINICS OR ACTIVITIES.

 

1.    Participants who have symptoms of respiratory or gastrointestinal infections, such as cough, fever, sore throat, vomiting, or diarrhea, should stay home. If a participant becomes sick (of any nature: headache, stomachache, or other sudden illness) during camp/clinic/activity, they will be required to be picked up immediately. They will be isolated from the program (Community Center Kitchen) until they are picked up. Participants that become ill due to Covid-19 may not return to the program until they have properly recovered as outlined by the CDC.

2.    Parents, please notify staff of any medical needs for the participant. Additional registration forms may be required (medication dispense, epi-pen, etc.)

3.    During inclement weather, participants will take shelter in the Founders Park Community Center or the Ron Levy Aquatic Center. Programs may be cancelled during or prior to activity depending on severity of forecasted weather.

4.    Please apply sunscreen to your children before bringing them to camp/clinic/or activity and inform children of using sunscreen throughout the event. Sunscreen breaks are provided. Aerosol spray sunscreen is recommended for easier application by camper and assistance by staff (touch free). Hats, sun protective shirts, and sunglasses are highly recommended!

5.    No weapons are permitted! Including toys that resemble weapons, toy guns, toy knives, etc. These items will not be tolerated and will result in expulsion. Even verbal discussions of weapons are subject to expulsion.

6.    Participants are expected to respect others (no fighting, no name-calling, no abusive language, and no bullying). Bullying will not be tolerated and may result in expulsion. Participants must also respect the staff and any Founders Park facilities they attend.

7.    Please label personal items to ensure their return if lost. Remind participants not to share personal items such as brushes, clothing, or towels, etc. 

 

Payment secures your child a space in the program. Limited space. Refunds may only be considered due to extenuating circumstances.

INDEMNITY AND RELEASE

I, the undersigned parent or legal guardian of the minor, whose name appears above, consent and agree that the above-named minor may participate in the Village sponsored or provided activities. The undersigned further agrees that Islamorada, Village of Islands (the “Village”) and its officers, agents, representatives, volunteers and employees will not be held liable for injuries or other loss sustained by the minor which occur as a result of the above-named minor’s participation in the Village sponsored or provided activities.

The undersigned hereby authorizes the Village to call my physician and/or arrange for transportation to a hospital in the event of any injury, although I understand that the Village and its officers, agents and employees assume no responsibility to do so

The undersigned parent/guardian, specifically WAIVES ANY CLAIM against the Village and its officers, agents, representatives, volunteers and employees. The undersigned hereby RELEASES, DISCHARGES AND COVENANTS NOT TO SUE the Village any loss, injury or damage or death sustained by the above-named minor that arises out of participation in the Village sponsored or provided activities, whether caused in whole or part by the negligence of the Village or by the negligence of the officers, agents, representatives, volunteers, or employees by the village.

Further, the undersigned parent/guardian, agrees to INDEMNIFY, DEFEND AND HOLD HARMLESS the Village and its officers, agents, representatives, volunteers and employees from any and all claims, actions, demands, rights, judgments or expenses arising from or by reason of any and all known damages, claims or actions arising from the above-named minor’s participation in the Village sponsored or provided activities.

The undersigned understands that the Village is not responsible for damage to or loss of money or personal property arising during or before or after the minor child’s participation in any activity.

This WAIVER, RELEASE and INDEMNITY shall continue notwithstanding any negligence or comparative negligence on the part of the Village relating to any loss, injury or damage.

Participant also acknowledges and understands that the Village and its contractors, partners and/or sponsors may use photographs, video or film for educational, informational or promotional purposes, and Participant hereby grants the Village and its contractors, partners and sponsors permission to use images of Participant or Participant’s likeness for any purpose with no compensation or liability.

The undersigned parent/guardian, also agree that this Waiver and Release form shall be binding on my heirs, successors and assigns.

By signing below, the undersigned parent/guardian acknowledges that (he/she) has fully read, understood and agrees to each and every term contained in this Waiver and Release.
