Release of Liability Form


Acknowledgment and Acceptance of Risks:

Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch, its officers, directors, agents, representatives, employees, volunteers, successors, and affiliates (hereinafter, "Ironwood") have granted permission for the below-named person(s) to participate in one or more of the possible activities as outlined in the sections below.

 If signing for another person as an adult or the parent or legal guardian having control or custody of the below-named person(s), I hereby grant permission for this person’s participation and I acknowledge and accept the inherent risks involved and agree to conform to expected rules and policies as outlined in the sections below.

 1. Introduction

Purpose of the Waiver:To inform participants of potential risks associated with the activities and to obtain their consent and release of liability, along with agreement to confirm to expected rules and policies.

Scope: This waiver covers all activities, site usage, animal interactions, and media-related participation at Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch.

 2. General Liability Release

Risk Acknowledgment and Acceptance: In consideration of the benefits derived, and despite the potential risks, I agree that the benefits to the participant outweigh the risks assumed. I hereby agree to hold harmless, indemnify, and defend Ironwood from any liability for injury or damage including bodily injury, personal injury, emotional injury, property damage, or death, which may result from participating in any activity at Ironwood or off-site, Ironwood-related activities. I agree to release Ironwood from liability for any injury, loss, or damage incurred at the ranch, except in cases of gross negligence or intentional harm.

 3. General Program Activities Release of Liability

Risk Acknowledgment and Acceptance: I, the undersigned participant (or parent/legal guardian of the minor participant), acknowledge that participating in general program activities at Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch involves inherent risks. These activities may include, but are not limited to, group sports, hiking, recreational games, and crafts. The risks associated with these activities include physical injury from falls, collisions with other participants, or injuries from equipment.

 I understand that these activities, while supervised and conducted with participant safety as a priority, still carry inherent risks that cannot be entirely eliminated. I accept these risks as part of the participation in activities at Ironwood.  I assume full responsibility for personal injury to myself or the below-named person(s), and further release and discharge Ironwood for injury, loss, or damage arising from participation in these activities.

4. Specific Activity Acknowledgment

Acknowledgment of Risks for Archery, BB Gun Shooting, Zip-Lining, Snow Tubing, Swimming, and Water Skiing: I, the undersigned participant (or parent/legal guardian of the minor participant), recognize that participating in archery, BB gun shooting, zip-lining, snow tubing, swimming, or water skiing at Ironwood involves inherent risks that may result in physical injury, property damage, or death. These risks include, but are not limited to:

  • Archery and BB Gun Shooting: Risks of injury from misuse of equipment, being hit by stray projectiles, or equipment failure.
  • Zip-Lining: Risks of falls, collisions, or equipment failure leading to severe injury or death.
  • Snow Tubing: Risks of collisions, loss of control, and variations in snow conditions that may lead to injuries.
  • Swimming: Risks of drowning, slips and falls near water, or injuries from underwater obstacles.
  • Water Skiing: Risks of drowning, falling while skiing, running into other skiers or boats, or objects in the water, injuries from moving in/out of the boat and moving around docks/piers.

 Acceptance of Responsibility: I understand that these activities require personal discipline and skills to manage and that risks cannot be eliminated without jeopardizing the essential qualities of the activity. Therefore, I assume full responsibility for personal injury to myself (or my child) and further release and discharge Ironwood for injury, loss, or damage arising from my (or my child’s) participation in these activities, regardless of whether it is caused by the negligence of Ironwood or otherwise. By signing this document, I agree to release, waive, and discharge Ironwood from all liability to me, my representatives, assigned heirs, and next of kin for any loss, theft, damage, or injury that may be sustained during my (or my child’s) participation in these activities.

 5. Equine Interaction Policy

I, the undersigned participant (or parent/legal guardian of the minor participant), fully recognize and acknowledge that equine activities at Ironwood involve inherent risks which may be beyond the control of Ironwood. These activities include, but are not limited to, trail rides, horse lessons, horse camps, sleigh/wagon rides, horse painting, equine therapy, and cart rides. The inherent risks include:

  • Risk of injury from the activity and equipment utilized is significant including the potential for permanent disability and death.
  • Possible injuries from falling off or being thrown from a horse.
  • Risks associated with crossing roadways and terrain that may affect the horse.
  • The unpredictability of a horse’s reaction to sounds, sudden movements, and unfamiliar objects, persons, or other animals.
  • Risks of other participants acting negligently.

 I am aware that Ironwood is covered under Minnesota Statute Section 604A.12 (2015), which states that a nonprofit corporation, association, or organization, or a person or other entity donating services, livestock, facilities, or equipment for the use of a nonprofit corporation, association, or organization, is not liable for the death of or an injury to a participant resulting from the inherent risks of livestock activities.

Safety Measures: I understand I must adhere to rules and safety measures required for equine interactions.

Equine Helmet Use and Safety: I understand that the use of a helmet is required for all riders under the age of 18 and highly recommended for riders 18 years of age and older. I certify that if I am 18 years of age or older, I have been informed about the safety benefits of helmet use and have chosen accordingly.

Acceptance of Responsibility: I agree to assume responsibility for the risks identified herein and those risks not specifically identified. My participation in these activities is purely voluntary, and I elect to participate in spite of the risks.

6. Animal Farm Interaction Policy

I, the undersigned participant (or parent/legal guardian of the minor participant), acknowledge that interactions with and around farm animals at Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch involve inherent risks that may lead to physical injury or harm. These risks include, but are not limited to:

  • Injuries from bites or scratches by animals.
  • Being knocked down or pushed by animals.
  • Allergic reactions to animal fur or feed.
  • Zoonotic diseases that can be transmitted from animals to humans.

 Acceptance of Responsibility: I understand that while Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch enforces strict safety protocols, the possibility of unexpected animal behavior and accidents cannot be eliminated. I assume full responsibility for personal injury to myself (or my child) and further release and discharge Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch for injury, loss, or damage arising out of my (or my child's) use of or presence upon the facilities of Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch, whether caused by the fault of myself, my family, Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch, or other third parties.

 7. Site Usage

Acknowledgment of Risks: I, the undersigned participant (or parent/legal guardian of the minor participant), understand that using the facilities and equipment at Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch involves inherent risks. These risks include, but are not limited to, injuries from slips, trips, falls, equipment malfunctions, and accidents due to improper use or failure of equipment.

 Acceptance of Responsibility: I acknowledge that it is my responsibility to use all facilities and equipment appropriately, following any instructions provided and adhering to safety guidelines established by Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch. I accept the risks associated with the use of these facilities and equipment, understanding that even with precautions, accidents and injuries can still occur.

 8. Conduct and Supervision

Acknowledgment of Risks: I, the undersigned participant (or parent/legal guardian of the minor participant), acknowledge the expectations set by Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch regarding proper conduct while participating in activities or using the facilities. These expectations include, but are not limited to, respectful interaction with other participants and staff, appropriate supervision of minors, adherence to safety rules, and respect for all property at the ranch.

Restrictions on Alcohol, Drugs, and Prohibited Items: I understand that the use of alcohol and illegal drugs on the premises of Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch is strictly prohibited. Additionally, any items deemed unsafe or inappropriate by the ranch staff are not allowed on the property. I agree to comply with these restrictions and understand that failure to comply may result in immediate removal from the premises and potential legal action.

9. Media and Photo Release

I grant Ironwood permission to use comments, photographs, and/or video images of the participant for marketing, publicizing, and promoting Ironwood. I waive any right to be compensated for the use of the participant's comments and/or image and release Ironwood from liability for any claims regarding the same. 

10. Volunteer Service

As a volunteer at Ironwood, I acknowledge that volunteering for various activities, including but not limited to equine activities, maintenance, hospitality services, event support, and other miscellaneous tasks, inherently involves risk. These risks may include, but are not limited to, personal injury, property damage, or other loss resulting from accidents, mishaps, or negligence.

Acceptance of Responsibility: I understand and accept that there are risks associated with my volunteer activities at Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch. I  assume full responsibility for any injuries, losses, or damages that I may incur while volunteering, and I understand that Ironwood is not responsible for any personal injuries or damages sustained as a result of my voluntary participation.

11. Medical Treatment Authorization

In the event of an emergency requiring medical treatment, I authorize Ironwood to secure and retain medical treatment and transportation if needed. This authorization includes x-rays, surgery, hospitalization, medication, and any treatment deemed "life-saving" by the physician or medical professional involved.

 12. General Consent and Agreement:

I certify that I am at least 18 years of age, or the legal guardian of the participant if under 18, and that I am legally competent to sign this waiver. I have read this waiver thoroughly and understand its contents. By signing below, I consent to all terms and conditions stated herein.

 I hereby release, waive, discharge, and covenant not to sue Ironwood from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions, and causes of action whatsoever arising out of or related to any loss, damage, or injury, including death, that may be sustained by me, or to any property belonging to me, while on premises owned or leased by Ironwood, regardless of whether such loss is caused by the negligence of Ironwood, or otherwise. I  have read this release of liability and waiver agreement, fully understand its terms, and understand that I am giving up substantial rights, including my right to sue. I acknowledge that I am signing this agreement freely and voluntarily, and intend my signature to be a complete and unconditional release of all liability to the greatest extent allowed by law.
