Safety
The site of the event may have hazards, and participants may be working with tools that could be hazardous if used incorrectly. - We will look out for our own safety and the safety of others.
- We will follow instructions of the event leaders.
Respect for the Environment
The climbing environment is a limited and non-renewable resource. - We will avoid causing unnecessary damage to rocks, trails, vegetation, animal life, historic artifacts, or any other features of the climbing area and its surroundings.
- We will respect the resource protection rules of the landowner or land manager.
Respect for Others
Climbing areas may have neighbors or other users, and maintaining good relations can be critical to continued access. - We will keep to designated parking areas and trails as much as possible.
- We will avoid disturbing others through excessive noise, crowding, blocking trails, etc.
- If others express concerns about the event, we will avoid confrontations and direct them to an event organizer.
Respect for Each Other
As part of its effort to keep the climbing community welcoming, The Access Fund strives to promote inclusive practices and principles. - We encourage everyone’s participation, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, religion, socioeconomic status, experience level, or any other personal characteristic.
- We will treat everyone with respect and dignity.
- We will use inclusive and respectful language, and avoid slurs, profanity, inappropriate jokes, or other offensive expressions.
- We will not tolerate harassment, intimidation, or abuse.
- We will be mindful of others’ cultural backgrounds and experiences, and avoid assumptions or stereotypes.
- We will strive to make the event as accessible as possible for individuals with disabilities.
- We will be patient with each other, recognizing that if we listen to each other, we may be able to learn as well as to teach.
- We will ask before giving feedback, and we will avoid being defensive when feedback is given.
Violations of the Code of Conduct - If possible, we will express our concerns directly and informally.
- We will correct others gently and politely if they say something that is insensitive or offensive, but we will correct and not let offensive comments slip by.
- When necessary, we will promptly communicate any concerns about violations of this Code of Conduct to event organizers or staff, or to The Access Fund.
- We understand that inability to follow this Code of Conduct may lead to removal from the event, or banning from future events.
