(1) Conditions of Use for Climbing Gym Sen Risks of Participation
BMC Statement– “The British Mountaineering Council recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions.” ABC Statement – “The Association of British Climbing Walls recognises that all climbing activities have a risk of serious injury. Participants must recognise that even if they follow all good practice there may still be a risk of accident and injury. It is the responsibility of the participant to adhere to the conditions of use.” THE MATTING UNDER THE CLIMBING WALLS DOES NOT REMOVE THE RISK OF INJURY. Injuries can still occur even after a controlled/planned jump but are more likely after an uncontrolled fall. You should always be doing your utmost to avoid the risk of uncontrolled falls. This includes paying attention to how you will land and always assessing the risk of each climb that you undertake. Participation statement “All climbing and bouldering activities have a risk of serious injury or death. Participants must be aware of and accept that even if they follow all good practice there may still be the risk of accident and injury. It is the responsibility of the participant to adhere to the conditions of use.” There is inherent risk involved with climbing centres and associated activities. Sen Climbing Gym recommends obtaining personal climbing insurance through the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) for those who wish to be covered for personal injury, third-party liability, and other climbing-related risks. Our Duty of Care The Safety Rules of Climbing Gym Sen that are set out below are not intended to limit your enjoyment of the facilities. They are part of the duty of care that we, as operators, owe to you, the customer, by law. As such they are not negotiable. If you are not prepared to abide by them, you may not use our facilities or services and you may be asked to leave. Your Duty of Care You also have a duty of care to act responsibly towards the other users of our gym. Statements of ‘Good Practice’ are posted around the gym adjacent to the relevant facilities. These describe the accepted methods of use and how customers would normally be expected to behave towards each other. You must register before you participate in any activities at the centre. Individuals under the age of 18 must be registered by a parent or legal guardian. Unsupervised Climbing Before you can use the bouldering walls without supervision, you must be aware of the safe usage of bouldering and know how to use the bouldering walls safely. You must be registered to confirm that you understand the Conditions of Use, that you know how to boulder and are prepared to abide by the Safety Rules, and that you understand and accept the risks involved in your participation. You must be registered as competent in the safe use of the climbing facilities. Unsupervised climbing is just that: you are responsible for your safety. If you are not competent or confident in the use of any climbing or training facilities, then do not attempt to use them without the supervision of someone who is competent to do so. If you cannot register as competent in the safe use of the climbing facilities, you will be classified as a novice and cannot climb unless supervised by a competent person that has completed the Bouldering Supervisor Assessment. Supervised Climbing If you cannot register as competent in the safe use of the climbing facilities, you will be classified as a Novice and cannot climb unless supervised by a competent person that has completed the Bouldering Supervisor Assessment. If you are under the age of 18, you will be classified as a Minor and cannot climb, unless supervised by a competent person that has completed the Bouldering Supervisor Assessment, unless you have been assessed by a member of staff and registered for unsupervised climbing. Minors are not permitted in the training area without a member of staff present. The training area is designated by a yellow tape on the floor and includes campus boards.
