This youth filmmaking workshop, for kids ages 10-17, will be led by David James Baker with assistance from Kim Ryan and Soozy Wollard. David is an educator, filmmaker, researcher, digital media content producer, and business owner who has produced numerous documentaries, essays, and scripts and has taught and exhibited his work at numerous colleges and universities across Asia, Europe, the U.S., and Central and South America. Previously, he was a faculty member at Western New Mexico University. Kim studied film production at Vancouver Film School, and has produced several music videos and short films. She is currently the cultural coordinator at the Silco Theater in Silver City. The workshop is designed to introduce participants to the art of storytelling, shooting and editing. Participants will need to bring a mobile device – iphone, ipad, android, or tablet. Over the course of the week they will shoot and edit content on their devices. It is likely they will need to spend time on the project outside of workshop hours during that week. It is our hope that we will be able to feature these projects at our 2025 Silver City Community Film Festival, taking place October 2-5 at the Silco.
